Expect plenty of large 4K OLED gaming monitors with 240Hz refresh rates to arrive next...

Simple: OLEDs and their main weakness, regardless of how much they've improved. You're getting a 4K 240hz display that you won't fully utilize because, as you said, even 120hz is a struggle, so why get it in the first place if you're not gonna use it to it full extent in the near future? There will probably be cheaper alternatives all the time until GPUs can catch up to that level of performance, and when they do, much better OLED (or other tech) that won't have the same problems.
Why get it? The superior contrast and motion clarity obviously. The main weakness of OLED is burn-in I would say and because this is hooked up to a console (as I said in my first comment) it isn't likely to suffer from that anytime soon. It gets used a couple of hours a day at most and there are some days where it isn't used at all or gets used not for gaming but for watching movies. Was it expensive? Yeah but a cheap $500 TV doesn't even begin to compare in capability, not to mention I would need to deal with all that SmartTV crap. You literally are admitting that future-proofing is possible with displays since it won't be holding back performance (especially in consoles) anytime soon. It would be different if I was using this for a PC.

If they do not come with DPv2.0+, then nobody cares. Squeezing bits out of DPv1.4 has become absurd.
I've been using DSC on DP v1.4 with 3440x1440@240hz for 4 months.
As a pixel peeper myself I intensely searched by any sign of compression artifacts: there are none. It is not only a viable choice, it is magnificent.
There is no point to wait for v2.0 forever.

This article is about 4K monitors, and yours is not.

I have a Gigabyte M32UC 4K 144hz VA monitor that I'm perfectly happy with. It's not the best monitor on the market, but it wasn't a fortune either.

This is good. I have 2k 1440p 240hz VA Samsung but would do OLED for the HDR and even better pixel times but only those with a bit more vertical height than the current offerings in 2023

Sooner...
Why are they putting all this new tech and releasing it on dorm-room sized panels, that most of us had when we were in college. 38" 34" & 32" are always lagging behind in the high-end space of new tech.

I held off buying my latest monitor, bcz I thought a newer version would be coming in OLED. Recently bought the 38" 3840x1600 Alienware (AW3821DW) to replace my 7 year old Acer X34 3440x1440p. Would've paid more if it had better features. I also own a 42" Gaming OLED I just love for my other computer, I just want a wider format for gaming.

Depends entirely on the game and what settings/rendering tech it has. For example, Doom Eternal will easily run over 240 fps at 4K with an RTX 4090 (and suitable CPU).
Vermitide 2 with a 4090 , 7700x gets you performance variance from 180 fps to 240 fps as well at 4k max settings. Subjectively capping performance to 120 fps and keeping it uncapped resulting in the same gaming performance for me so naturally the benefit beyond 4k 120 fps is 4k 240 hz monitor in this title as well. Today's hardware can be scaled to run at maximum efficiency or go all out out with Today's titles for maximum brute force computing at 4k 30 fps. I agree it all depends on the title.

Current oled displays are not yet future proof due to their inherent limitations.
True, but you always have to compare it to something else as a perspective. One of the best microled ips displays at 4k 144 hz 32 inch monitor is by viesonic 1400 nits hdr certified costs $2500 and still has dp 1.4. We can use this as a point of reference on what paying over the top outside of oled technology that is also not future proof due to dp 1.4 standard and 144hz. This miniled is better suited for production and gaming. Oled are more for content consumption then production due to the limitations of burn in. Although my 48 inch cx was probably a future proof investment 3 years ago because there is nothing that warrants an upgrade currently imo.

I have m28u and I regret buying it a lot.
It has this annoying problem when the display blinks, it is like it does it when a driver is updated, and if I am in a game to jumps out of full screen.
I sent it for repair and they could not do anything about it.
I also tested it on 3 different computers, it is this f***ng monitor.
I will not sell it because I do not sell defective items without disclosing bad things to people who wanna buy them. And I do not want to replace it as it happens maybe 1-2 times a day even if I am using it for a long time.
I never had this problem with any other brand. I wish it just broke and I could get a replacement (it is still under "warranty").

I think you probably mean "mini-led". Micro-led pricing is still astronomical and I don't think anyone is yet manufacturing a micro-led monitor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicroLED If there were micro-led monitors on the market, I would definitely consider foregoing an OLED monitor for as long as it took for the price of micro-led monitors to reach a reasonable level.

Weird, do you perhaps have more than one monitor connected to your PC?
