File not moving

When I connect my external hard drive to computer and try to move a file from one folder to another within the external hard disk windows keep showing me calculating and also when I try to cancel it, it keeps showing me cancelling.

How are you choosing to move/cancel it? Cut & paste, copy/paste or ??
