I've come across this a few times, strangley enough mostly w/ video files. I try and delete the file and it gives me the "cannot be deleted becuase the file is in use" message. How do you get rid of these files when you come across this problem. I've tried safe mode, and I'm almost 100% positive that there isn't a program that should be using the video file somewhere in the background.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a program such as Creative Media Source running? Like a music player that automaticly detects files from a folder by monitoring it?

Is the file an .avi? In particular, is it a divx avi?

If so, try renaming it then deleting it. Change it from a .avi to .temp or anything. XP doesn't seem to like divx very much, according to a page I just read.

i don't think i have any program that would monitor media files, i have winamp, windows media player (classic and the new one).

i tried renaming it but recieved the same message, that it was being used by another program
