Forza Horizon 5 Review

Why not write a review of a game instead of a review of the game’s wokeness?

Nobody cares to read your constant virtue signaling. You even say you hate cars. Why? It’s not stated, but implied. Climate change. This isn’t a review of a driving sim. It’s a “how much has Forza submitted to leftist politics”? The only thing you left out is a wokeness score.

Leave the reviews of car sims to people that actually like cars and can separate their political preferences from their JOB and OUR HOBBIES!

Started playing FH5 on Friday, this review pretty much sums it up: very similar to FH3 and FH4, but so what? The formula just works. Most of the time I just drive aimlessly around using my racing wheel, gawking at the scenery, just as if I’m on a joyride through the country in real life.

Also the opening scene in FH5 is straight out of Fast and Furious 7, where Vin Diesel’s crew are in super cars dropped out of planes. Ridiculous, but still super fun to experience now in a video game being in a car dropped out of a plane!

It's a Kotaku review.

I'm playing the game now on PC and it's Forza 4 plus, which is hardly a bad thing. Visuals are fantastic, diversity of races, challenges, collectibles. Tonnes to do in multiplayer. I'll be playing this well into next year no problem. FH4 was the best arcade style racer last generation, FH5 is automatically the best right now. It's superb.

Performance is ok, scales well if you have the minimum GTX970 you'll get a good experience at 1080p. I tried it with a now five year old GTX1070 and a 3060Ti. GTX1070 still allowed for mixed medium/high settings at 1440p to get 60FPS and looked great. You really need more than 4 CPU threads to have some headroom and avoid stutter.

I would say that the PC version does have a few technical hiccups though. Some minor stutter is evident, possibly CPU related. Issues with VRR, weird artifacts with DRS enabled. Also it may have a minor memory leak if you're playing for a hour or more. Full scale release is the 9th, so here's hoping for a week one/imminent patch that tidies up some niggling issues that are fairly obvious. Revised drivers maybe help.

It's by no means a disaster but it will need a few patches to clean up fully.

Each to their own but I find Forza as dull as a bag of rocks. It is most certainly NOT skyrim with cars or Far Cry with cars, those games arent even similar so im not really sure what the writer is on about. It sounds like just another open world racing game, last time I played one of those it was called Burnout Paradise and that had better damage and sense of speed than the Forza games.

If anyone is looking for a good game, try Kena: Bridge of Spirits, a PS exclusive that has been launched on the Epic games store. It definitely has surprised me a bit.

If I wanted to read some bullcrap Kokatu review, I'd visit Kokatu.
I don't support their site or content for many reasons, shame to see it spilling out to a site I do like to support.

That aside, FH5 is more of the same with a little garnish on top and that's just fine, it's what it should be. It looks better, feels better to play.
What sucks is that currently online is bugged as heck. Convoy leaders disappearing in front of you so you can't drive together across the map to events together, but events in co-op still work (mostly), slew of other minor bugs as well. Constant disconnect warnings.

Your comment is a better review than the garbage from Kotaku.

All review reaction butt hurt aside, longevity is the next thing to judge, and that takes time. It's the best racing game I have ever played, hands down. Finally edging out Horizon 4 and Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec.

I didn't have any stuttering problems like @Vulcanproject did but I did have some crashing for a time and also a no start which could only be fixed by rebooting. For now shutting down Windows security (Virus & threat protection) seems to fix the issues that it does have and all has been fine since. Supposed to be a patch next week for these things.

As long as writing is considered free speech, your only option is to just stop reading when you are triggered. If Kotaku has a problem with the review style, they will say so to the writer and maybe even pull it. If they don't, it's not your concern. Whining is very old-fashioned.

There’s no politics in this article. Stop finding new ways to be offended. If you don’t like the articles, don’t read them.

I might try it on PC if price was not insanely high, why are Microsoft games so overpriced - To force people to buy Game Pass?

80-100 euro/dollars for Horizon 5, unless you pick the standard edition.
However it's slightly cheaper than Forza Horizon 4.

Just like Flight Sim is 90/120 dollars and 70 for standard. Seems steep.

Guess I will wait for sale. Not sure I will like it anyway. A demo would be great.

Did not read this "review", but here is my review playing it for a few hours:

- Gameplay the same as Horizon 4
- Cars look good, but the world is a mixed bag, some locations look great others not so much
- Avatars are horrible both in graphics quality and realism and overall look
- Overall it's a little better looking than Horizon 4, so I'm not really impressed by graphics at all because I was expecting more and it certainly doesn't look like in the trailers
- With a Ryzen 3600 OC, 16GB DDR4 3600 and RX 6700 XT OC, it runs on Extreme settings at 1080p over 75 fps all the time, except it hangs/drops on loading scenes and scene transitions, so pretty frequent and annoying.

But this is because this game is in a horrible state on PC, as Horizon 4 was at launch. It already has a mile long list of issues on Steam.

Because of this, I uninstalled it. This game will be worth playing after 1-2 years when it has all the necessary dozens of patches and fixes and by that time all the DLC too. Again we see an unfinished, unpolished game for the Nth time... this trend in gaming is horrible.

Can't play on Steam: Restart Steam to initiate Unpacking
Can't find DLC cars: Go to the Autoshow, Sort by Value and tab to the [0 CR] cars to collect them for your Garage.
Free car voucher: The Welcome Pack offers a one-time free car from the Autoshow. You'll see this as an option to use CR or the voucher when you select a car from the Autoshow. (tip: look through the Accolades and Festival Playlist for cars you can win instead of burning your voucher)
Loyalty Rewards deliver the cars except for P1, or only the Senna: we're aware of this and investigating.
Online not available: Once you've played through the initial drive, first Showcase event, and completed the first Story chapter, the menus should open up. If not, continue completing "New" events on your map, and reboot.
Bonus boards impossible to reach: Expanding your outposts in the Adventure menu and completing Danger Signs and other events will spawn ramps that will help you achieve elevation. Also scout the area for terrain that will serve for jumping.
Fast Travel: You can use the menu to Go Home for free (as well as use the Car Collection to go to the Autoshow for free), but you'll need to buy the Player House on the western side of the map to enable Fast Travel to any road point on the map. You'll still need to pay CR for each Fast Travel until you smash Fast Travel Bonus Boards which reduce your cost eventually to zero.
Cars not available in the Autoshow: Use the Car Collection to select each model and see where they're available. Hard to Find cars show up in the weekly seasonal Festival Playlist events, and some cars can be won from the permanent Accolade challenges. Cars can also be won in Wheelspins.
Locked phrases and clothing: Same as with cars.
Convoy "Not in Leader's Session": Ask your convoy members to park in your vicinity on the map to have them added to your session in the Convoy list.

My brain exploded. What kind of review is that? Will the game run on my PC? How is it compared to other great (like Assetto Corsa, Crew 2, NFS Heat, etc)? Feels like the author just practiced his writing skills/made some kind of statement/etc, but hasn't actually succeeded in reviewing the game.
please, do not compare it to Assetto Corsa even as example;) AC is nice sim on PC, where Forza (horizon) is very nice arcade, but arcade nevertheless.

Forza Horizon = Arcade
Forza Motorsport = Sim

Right?
I'd say Forza Motorsport is rather 'simcade' - it have some sim vibes, but is way too forgiving and drive model is rather sloppy. Sure there is clear distinction between FM and FH, but same is between FM and RaceRoom, iRacing, rFactor and/or Assetto Corsa.
Still, FM is a great, fun game.

This game is "skyrim with cars"? "far cry with no guns"? "uncut MDMA"? What? ^^` sounds like the reviewer was on some stuff when writing this. Doesn't make any sense lol.
Never had the chance to play the game and after reading this it seems that all I thought about what the game was like was wrong. But reading the comments, I think it definitely worth playing.

I've found Forza games to be really bad in the past. Driving to the event? Racing that feels like you are driving a couch. I agree I would like a demo. I only consider it because I have finished up with Dirt 5 and all it's DLC's. But I am not willing to risk purchasing another Forza knowing how bad 4 was.

I signed up for a Techspot account explicitly for the purpose of responding to this.

Number one: Congratulations on your clicks, I'm sure you'll somehow scam a plenty of people into clicking it. With that out of the way, let me give you a real review of the game itself.

This is the most generic, offensively inoffensive, bland driving sim ever created. It just has to be. If it were a colour, it would be beige. It is the embodiment of blandness. There is absolutely nothing special about this whatsoever - and I absolutely include the graphics in that department.

I played Crysis Remastered and Need for Speed Most Wanted today, both of them are 100% on par with this game. In fact NFS:MW came out A DECADE AGO, has superior physics, superior crashes, better music, none of the bland filler-content in between races, and none of the annoying characters either.

I went on google and typed in "Forza Horizon 5 review" and I'm 4 pages deep and can't find anything less than 10/10. What the hell is going on? For real, this is totally abnormal. There is objectively very little to like about this game.

- The characters are annoying, bland, and look straight out of 2011.
- The voice acting is laughable. The stupid dances are laughable.
- The cutscenes are both obnoxious and excessive in length
- The graphics are nothing special, and there seems to be a severe aliasing problem that can't be overcome no matter what setting is turned on or off.

The only innovation I've seen in this racing game compared to any other, is that it is the first one to give me the option of choosing which pronoun I'd like the PC to address me with. WTF.

I honestly think it's an insult to compare this to either proper driving games (Assetto Corsa, Pagani Edition etc) or fun arcade games because it does neither properly. It has none of the realism of AC and none of the fun of Need for Speed. This is a stagnant game in a stagnant genre suffocating in an atmosphere of incessant wokeness. It is a shopping list of boring events where you are rewarded with the greatest cars in the world for doing nothing.

This game is sh-t and points to a complete lack of originality and drive to make compelling games at MS.

TS you should not be hosting this content and Kotaku is an absolute stinking joke. I honestly wonder how you lot are being compensated for writing such rubbish.
