Running windows xp home on p4 3ghz 478 with 512mb ram msi board and benq dw1640 burner using zone alarm security suite v6 .the problem is that when a cd is inserted into the burner the system locks up ,once the burner spins up. The keyboard locks up (no control alt delete, no esc, nothing )the mouse also locks up ) the only way out is the reset switch . I have run virus scans and nothing turns up .Is this likely to be software or hardware issue or some virus Im missing. Or do i have to bite the bullet and do a complete reinstall or buy new dvd burner. The system is less than 12 months old.Any help appreciated.

Try moving the burner to the other IDE channel/Channel by itself. If it's by itself now then move it to IDE0 as a slave. Do you have Roxio or Nero installed. Sometimes "In CD" or Roxios version of In cd (can't think of the name right now) can cause issues like freezing. I would disable either of those programs that automatically start when a CD or DVD is inserted.
