Google searches for "free VPN" skyrocket in Florida after porn ban goes live

And yet they let priests keep raping kids in that state and hid the attackers in new churches .. way to go team red
To be fair, priests are abusing boys in plenty of other states... and plenty of other countries as well... and until recently, authorities have been looking the other way...

The state of Florida hasn't banned any books... it's the law allowing Florida SCHOOLS to ban/prohibit books that has/had people up in arms...
A school itself choosing to not purchase a book isn't a ban. And if parents for some reason wish to provide their 9 year old children with graphic sexual material, they still can. Most Florida parents, luckily, do not, which is why the legislation was widely supported.

It wasn't the "decide not to purchase" - it was the removal of books already purchased that had some people angry... especially since some of the criteria were poorly chosen...

Every school system has some sort of policy on which books are appropriate for purchase - I'm a teacher/librarian in toronto and we have specific items we can and cannot purchase. BUT... the policy is set by the Board of Education - not by random parents. If a parent has an issue with a book(s), they can bring it up to the individual school and decisions can be made.

Nowadays, we tend to kowtow to parents as everyone fears lawsuits... I watched as my wife's school pruned Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter as they were too old...

Opera already has a "free VPN". Unfortunately, the download speed is about 5 Kbs. Which means, that for the average 30 minute "durty moovie", it could be an investment of days, if not weeks, to have it in your download folder.

Requiring ID for a site is a mistake as data breaches are going to happen…

Why are children allowed to watch extreme violence online but not a naked body??

Puritans, get your values in order!!
OK kidz, I believe Mr. Surprise has had me blocked for years. In any event, this post will be something worth his consideration

While I quite agree that nakedness isn't harmful to children and other living things. I disagree that all things being lumped under the umbrella of "porn", fall into the category of "art".

In the way that rap music has devolved to the point of the "N-word", and the "F-bomb" are practically mandatory. "Erotic art", has taken a bit of a turn towards an excess of gratuitous "artistic viewing angles". Once upon a time, it was a young nubile running naked through a field of lavender. Now, you're just as apt to get 10 shots of her butt crack in a row, each at a different "artistic" angle. That ain't "nude pinup wallpaper", my faithful droogs.

So, there's also a lot of bisexual and gay porn, skat**, urinating into mouths, bondage, and other fairly lurid topics being displayed.

There isn't any restriction on the limit of vulgarity that's available. Now, at this point, you know the right will start spouting "grooming", at anything beyond what was considered, "nude art" 20 years ago. In fact, "fundamentalist psychos", would likely raise a stink about those "good old days".

I get credit report summaries from a couple of my credit cards monthly. This morning I read through the "notifications", and whaddya know, my social security number showed up on the dark web a few months back. However, I refuse to pay for "erotic art", as that would force a credit card number out of me. So, I dunno where it came from, but I suspect it's from one of these large data breeches by companies "more morally upstanding" than "Only Fans".

** Don't forget to look that up.

Not to mention some of today's "models", make Cinderella's evil sister's look like "marrying meat". Oh well, "different horses for different courses". Top the upside, some site are now providing AI for, "do it yourself girlfriends".

Texas is doing the same thing, Makes me think the powers that be is trying to get a registry of people going to these sites so they can blackmail them!😱

And remember Opera is owned by the Chinese so who is to say what lurks in it's depths!😲

Why spread disinformation like this? California school libraries have banned more books than anyone, and liberal censorship of books -- and other material -- for adults is at an all-time high.

As for Florida, they haven't "banned" books from adults. Sexually explicit material isn't allowed in children's schools.
That's not true or not entirely true. Books are banned by individual school districts, and CA is a big state with several very red districts. But CA has passed laws to protect trans kids, gay kids, kids of same-sex couples, etc., even including them in their state-mandated sex education (everyone deserves the banana demo at least once in their life). However, the state has slapped several school districts for violating these laws.

P.S. Mom is a teacher in FL and teachers feel bound and gagged. They can't even speak for fear of losing their pensions and they WILL lose their pensions if they strike. FL considers them essential workers, like firepeople...stupid and another good way to discourage talent. And look what DeSantis did to New College. He all but destroyed it. Good luck keeping FL schools in the top ten, I think if FL keeps this up for much longer, they'll lose a lot of their best profs through attrition and the state will sink back into the swamp it was in when I was a kid.

So kids will have to use one of the other 2,000,000 porn sites that aren't compelled by US law to get their porn.

Brilliant.
