GPU Availability and Pricing Update: July 2021

I'm just thanking my lucky stars that FSR is turning out so well. With it, I can see my 5700XT lasting for a good, long time. The MSRPs on these products had become insane even before the scalpers got 'em. I think that $500USD is about $100USD too much for the high-end (2nd-tier) of cards. I think that the MSRP for the RX 5700XT was about right at $400USD.

I actually managed to get my RX 5700XT for $362USD (after CAD to USD conversion) so, all things considered, I scored pretty heavy but what I'm seeing from the silicon makers these days is making me think that I won't have ray-tracing support for a very long time. To be honest, that's not a deal-breaker for me and probably never will be so I don't expect to replace my RX 5700XT until either FSR is insufficient or ray-tracing capability becomes mandatory.

Wake me up when GPU's halve in price, not drop a mere 10-15%. I'm lucky in that I was already losing interest in a lot of new AAA's and tending to play older games more anyway (even before the shortages started). Maybe I'd be in the market for a 3050 / 3060 but I can see my GTX1660 lasting +5 years at this rate as it's a solid "Hell no" from me to buying anything above MSRP or from any scalper.

With FSR and DLSS, AAA titles will be more accessible for people with older cards than ever.

So the prices have declined a little bit just like the value of crypto. Hmm I wonder what’s driving this!

Graphics cards are mining cards now, miners pay for more than gamers and crypto isn’t going away anytime. Even if it loses value people will still mine it so they have hold of coin when it goes up in value again.

Basically, unless you want to spend silly money just buy a console. In the past I was happy to buy top end products, I don’t think £700 or so was too much for a GPU. But for what 3090s go for on eBay etc today, it’s just not worth it. Buy a Nintendo switch and move on..

I had to stand in line and wait for a couple of hours, but I did manage to snag at 3060 ti Founders Edition for $399 at Best Buy this week. I work at the store so I knew how many we had arriving. But anecdotally from what I have seen at the store, inventory is loosening up and you should be able to buy product off store shelves soon.

Upgraded my rig last year.. well everything except the GPU (still rocking a GTX 970...). Put in a preorder for a RTX 3080 when they came out in November, and... im still waiting for it.
The company emailed me the other day saying that supply issues are still bad and that if I want to I could switch my order to a 3070 TI (more than what I paid for the 3080) or a 3080 TI (pretty much double what I paid for the 3080)... yeah no thanks I'll keep waiting till these prices stop being so bonky.

I don't understand how they think a Ti model will get to you any sooner. EVGA has moved very little 3070/3080Ti models, they're still sitting mere minutes past the official timestamp of when the cards launched. The 3070/3080Ti models released almost 2 months ago.

If you're waiting on a low-end model of the 3080/3070/3060 cards since they launched, you'll be waiting a long, long time because those low-end models rarely see the light of day from EVGA. If you didn't sign up for a notify on a higher-end model, you're most likely to never see a card drop through EVGA. I should know, I've been on the waiting list for a low-end 3060 (just something to replace the 980Ti that was having random, high fan spin up issues) and that queue has only moved 3 hours, 8 minutes and 54 seconds. I still have 30 minutes wait on the queue since I submitted my notification. At the rate this particular queue is moving, it'll be another 9-12 months before I can buy one. The day after I put my notification in on the low-end 3060 (priced $329), I put my notification in on the next model up (priced $399) and after about a month I got a notification email from EVGA that I could purchase that slightly more expensive RTX 3060.

The 3070/3080 models I put requests in at the end of November, I'm pretty sure I'll never see those either since those notifications are still sitting with dates in September.

Ah yeah, I put an order in through overclockers UK for a Palit 3080... went from 150th in the queue down to 11th now over that time frame, so im *almost* there, but yeah doubtful as to if I'll make that final stretch. I think they offered people who have been waiting, some TI models that they had in stock at discounted prices (still way inflated), and I imagine quite a few people took them up on the offer as my place in the queue did a big jump. Kinda sucks to be out of pocket £760 for 8 months now, but can't bring myself to cancel..
