Grand Theft Auto VI delayed again, now scheduled for November 2026

Highly anticipated: Grand Theft Auto IV, arguably the most anticipated game of all time, has suffered its second delay. When Rockstar first revealed the game in late 2023, it was set to launch right about now. With the newest schedule, the total delay amounts to a full year.

In a brief statement, Rockstar Games announced that Grand Theft Auto VI has been pushed back to November 19, 2026, to give the game extra polish. Following the announcement, Take-Two Interactive's stock fell 14 percent in after-hours trading before recovering slightly to close at a six percent loss.

GTA 6 was previously set to launch on May 26, 2026, after its first delay earlier this year. With this second postponement, its development cycle is starting to resemble that of Red Dead Redemption II. That title was originally slated for release in late 2017, delayed to spring 2018, and ultimately launched in October of that year. Perhaps the third release date will prove to be the charm for Rockstar once again.

The latest delay is particularly worrying for PC players, as Rockstar has yet to confirm a PC release. The company typically announces and launches PC versions after PlayStation and Xbox releases. GTA V arrived on PC two years after its console debut, while Red Dead Redemption II followed with a 13-month delay. Based on this trend, a PC version of GTA 6 may not arrive until late 2027 or even 2028.

Rockstar has also drawn recent criticism after firing between 30 and 40 employees, prompting accusations of union busting. The company maintains that the staff were dismissed for leaking confidential information. However, the Independent Workers of Great Britain (IWGB) stated that all affected employees were union members or individuals attempting to organize.

The IWGB later organized protests outside Rockstar North's Edinburgh office and Take-Two's London building, demanding reinstatement and back pay. According to an anonymous message from a former employee, staff were terminated without warning or evidence. They denied leaking company information, claiming they had only spoken with union organizers.

Analysts expect GTA 6 to become the biggest entertainment release in history, potentially generating up to $8 billion within two months of launch. In a new earnings report, Take-Two confirmed that GTA V has over 220 million copies since its 2013 debut, making it the best-selling game of the past decade and likely the second-best-selling game of all time, behind only Minecraft.

Although some speculate that Rockstar could charge $100 for the standard edition of GTA 6, a recent survey suggests that $70 is the more likely price point.

LOL............Gotta keep that sweet, sweet "Pre-order" cash rolling in as long as possible -before finally either declaring bankruptcy, or releasing a complete pile of dogs**t.

Well now it's obvious they're playing with your emotions.
I admit: I played through GTA3, Vice City, GTA: San Andreas and GTA:4, but I bought GTA:V and never played through it. When the game released it was broken and I wanted to play the multiplayer immediately. Wasn't interested in the story mode that much. I never played through it or beat it. I guess I have a whole year to do so - only I'll do it on my RTX 5090 rather than my Xbox so it should be better?

When it's released, everyone will rush to buy and play it and chances are it'll be the "best game ever made". Better they finish it than release a broken game.

It has ray tracing on PC and consoles now as well as upscaling support so good time to play gtav.

FYI the game engine breaks above 120 FPS. I recently started playing it on my 5080 (enhanced version) and discovered this googling the weird performance. Short version is cap the game at 120 for better cards to avoid issues.

If Rockstar is taking an extra year to make GTA 6 unforgettable, I’m all for it. I’d rather have a masterpiece that lasts a decade than a rushed game we forget in a month.

Delays are something usual in this industry, so it's not about that.

It's a ridiculous attempt to spin once again the story of employees fired for being union members or "individuals attempting to organize".

The source is serious - "an anonymous message from a former employee"

The pre-order hasn't ever actually opened. Take-Two's financials have grown ~30% YoY largely attributed to continued sales of GTA5, GTA Online among other reasons. I don't think TT are going to be closing Rockstar anytime soon, if anything just try and whip them into releasing more regularly again - the (as of this news) 13 year release gap between GTAs is pretty silly, the only main release in that time was RDR2 in 2019.

What's the financial point of NOT releasing a product? How is not selling something more money than actually selling it?

I'm a PC player and I'm not worried at all. Worrying about a game release date is silly

Ditto. It'll release when it does and until then it's barely in my thoughts.
Of course when that happens I'll have questions, as I do with any game, pertaining to an immediate purchase or otherwise... state/stability of game, its pricing etc.

For all that Rockstar or any dev has the same choices they, or any others, always had... make a game that works ok out of the box (or near enough) and that delivers without being crazily demanding. The big AAA's that don't cut it, especially on the optimisation front, I can simply wait for to be fixed in whatever way is lacking, or just miss entirely.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the GTAV campaign (one of very few story games I played twice) nm earlier entries (of which only 1/London, 2, Chinatown Wars and some of GTAIV I played) but at 48 and gaming on and off, as life and circumstance allowed, since the Intellivision a lot re my tolerances have changed even if my general love for gaming hasn't.

Personally After San Andreas, I didn't like any after that. I can remember I had an AMD FX 4170 with an 9800GT 1GB and could play GTA V. Doubt that will work now lol but I didn't like the game in general. Just didn't feel like it was the same quality as San Andreas. Graphics does not make a game.
