There's decent prices on Arc B580s in New Zealand at the moment. The First party one is $80 less than I paid in July 2025 because of an Intel promotion that's currently running.

If you're priced out of the 16GB cards, I highly reccomend considering the B580 with its 12GB. Good bang for your buck.

I'm not surprised anymore at this point in time. Just waiting for the next release cycle reviews. At least for me the current config can play all from my games library. Even the spare parts I have can play those games. Good luck selling me something for the next years.

If you thought RTX cards were already scarce, we have some gamers salivating at the mouth via "leaked" dlss 5 mod/ hype videos that are going viral as of past week in this market ( claiming they want upgrade now)? Then you have seen nothing yet.
How to get more gamers to use geforce now, sell remaining supply at a higher profit margin and reintroduce the Blackwell supers at a bargain ( but higher than before msrp) without the help of a leaked dlss 5 mod. Who knew that probably half the gamers will eat up dlss 5 via leak/ mod/ hype?

If you're on the older gen, upgrade ASAP. I bit the bullet and the stuff I bought is already 10% more expensive. Mobo and RAM went up 10% since a month ago. 9070 XT is still a good price. $730 for Asus prime or $750 if you want white. I once considered 5080 for $1,200 and that's now $1,500.

A year, maybe more, I've been warning people that AMD and Nvidia's revenue from gaming is dropping below 7% of their total revenue and they will stop their R&D. That was sometime in late 2024 when AMD announced they won't spend any money on RDNA. Nvidia rather buy stocks of other companies for $60B than to spend a penny on gaming GPUs.

The years of waiting are not worth it. You're missing out on all the enjoyment of your hobby. Prices are still going up. Nothing new is getting released for a long time too. Every penny is going to datacenters. If next gen does get released in 2028 or later, I can't image the prices they'll ask. Build something that can last you. I'm set for 5y or more if needed. The only thing I'll upgrade is to an OLED monitor.

Where is this quote that AMD isnt spending any money on rDNA? This fear mongering is incredibly stupid, despite years of screaming the sky is falling, both nvidia and AMD continue to make and sell and support gaming GPUs.

Also, just because YOU need the newest shiny silicon to enjoy your bing bing wahoo, does not mean everyone does. I'm still perfectly happy with my 6800xt.

Unless, you do not need new hardware (that is related to RAM or SSD chips), simply wait.

AI bubble is already cracking.
Thing is, a lot of hardware have been bought, and is now laying down because data centers haven't been built yet. Just ask Microsoft.

Prices going up happened several times in the past,and after certain time,they just went down drastically.

On the other hand, if you NEED now, just buy within your budget.

The depressing part is that there was finally a brief window where you could recommend a GPU without adding three paragraphs explaining why the price was stupid. And it's already gone.

Nvidia spent years training PC gamers to accept $1,000 GPUs, then $1,500 GPUs, then $2,000 GPUs. Apparently the next innovation is making the midrange feel expensive too.

Lets face it, even if the AI bubble does finally go away, I've got this funny feeling the prices still won't change much. Maybe drop a bit, but to keep those huge profit margins, they are gonna want to keep those prices as high as they can get it. Just think of the salary or hourly wage you're getting right now. It's REALLY hard to work for anything less once you're earning that much. You're only want more, not less. This obviously doesn't equate to GPUs, this can apply to EVERYTHING that has gone up. I'm not saying all companies are going to do this, and I'm not saying nothing will go back down once the AI bubble bursts. All I'm saying is prices we knew back then might not ever make that return ever again.

The price jump also depends on the brand & model of GPU as well. For instance, with my latest build I finally jumped ship from nVidia to AMD (was going to go Intel ARC, but it took forever for them to come back into stock) so I ended up purchasing an ASRock Steel Legend RX 9060 XT 16GB from Newegg for $425 including tax in June of last year. Current pricing from NE is $600 shipped from Hong Kong, and $700 from the US pre-tax. That's SIGNIFICANTLY more then the prices listed in the chart, even factoring the increase over MSRP. It's a 75% increase in price if you go with the US shipping.

Good point, but if you re-read my post again, I said prices we knew back then might not ever make a return ever again. And I also said I got this funny feeling that prices still won't change much. Those price spikes in the past have nothing to do with the price hikes that have happened many times since 2025.

So recently I was looking at my Plex server and considering a full rebuild as it was over 14 years old...

Here's the current specs...
Intel Core i5-3570K processor (2012, Ivy Bridge, LGA 1155, Intel HD Graphics 4000)
ASUS P8Z77-V LK (Bios 1402, 21032014)
32GB DDR3 RAM @ O.C. 2400 Mhz
ASUS Geforce GTX 1660 Super 6GB GDDR6
48TB (2 x 16TB drives mirrored, 2 x 8TB drives mirrored)
1TB SSD Windows 11 Pro
Silverstone Grandia GD09 HTPC Case

So after looking at all of the items I'd need to upgrade in any significant or meaninful way, I'm looking at over $1600 AU just for a base model intel 1700 mobo, 32GB budget DDR 5 ram, Intel 13th or 14th gen processor and a B580 intel GPU...

Needless to say, I asked myself "Do I have any issues with serving my friends and family now?"
The answer is NO, they can all mostly "Direct Play" everything I have, and for those instances requiring transcoding the 1660 Super 6GB does surprisingly well at transcoding (I've checked and it can transcode 3 x 10 bit 4K HDR streams at once without an issue). I also have the server connected to my GB Fibre internet via 2.5GB network router which helps and its placed under my home theater TV so I can direct play from the HTPC for my own needs.
And that ancient i5-3570K is still surprisingly capable, it rarely gets above 40% even when streaming to 3 external clients AND playing my own media (brief spikes to 70% occasionally).

So stuff these current prices, they can go to hell, this aging HTPC Plex Media Server is gonna hang in there for a while longer. I can hear my grandfathers voice in my head saying "They don't build them like they used to..." (he was refering to cars but the sentiment still works)

This isn't about supply and demand, all of the focus is on the AI bubble and the supply to the PC market is being artificially limited, there aren't any real shortages either.
