Absurd GPU Pricing Update Mid-2026: What Graphics Cards Cost Around the World

No word for second hand?
probably the best way
even my 11 years old Quadro M4000 is running some titles good enough, not to recommend but...

Funny, here a 5080 cost 1650 euro atm. The absolute cheapest you can buy (from GB) and the most pricy one is from Asus, for around 1900-2000. Depending on models. Some GB cards are also selling for 1700 ish, but they are usually gone. It was supposed to be Palit, the cheapest but that has been gone for at least 5 months now.

I dunno if our stores are scalping us big time or what but these are the local prices. Also, 5070 ti is 1200 euro here. Yes, 1200. In fact, some of the 5070 ti models go for 1400 euro... my god. The model that is the cheapest is - RTX 5070 Ti, 16GB, Gigabyte Eagle

Surely you can just import them from elsewhere though if the price differential is that large?

You forget the price differential exists because EU governments -- in the guise of "looking out for the consumer" implement regulations and taxes (like VAT) that create much higher prices. If someone attempts to circumvent this by buying products abroad, the authorities will intervene and charge an import tax.

Remember when an 80 class card was less than$500? Remember wh3n you could get 2, 8800GTs for $500?
I remember when the 8800 GTX -- a card with about 2% the horsepower of a 5070 -- was first released at a price of $600. Do you want to return to those days? It certainly was much cheaper making chips on that 90nm node.

Wrong. Try again ...........................per point pricing at time of manufacture is subject to point of time leading edge costs per that segment of time... but you dont understand that LOLOLOL

lol My 1st Nvidia gpus were 2x gts
8800 gta 320 gigs in sli ( by XFX ) going for around $300 each in 2007. I replaced those with a 8800 ultra classified for $650 just to play Crysis on high settings at 1680 x1050p.
Unfortunately we had 2 crypto mining bubbles and now are mid (ish) initial ai token wave.
If their is a pattern of ups and downs. It's a great idea to purchase a newer gpu when prices are lower ( even by selling older gpu to offset cost) than by on panic at inflated pricing imo.
While memory and gpu vendors want scarcity to maximize profits per silicon wafer/chip eventually the market will demand other players to offset the monopoly and scarce supply. Their are so many greedy players in the ai sector and each one wants to be shafted the least as per Google in this article using Intel as alternative supply. Intel is working with Softbank to come up with thier own memory to feed the ai data center demand by 2030 eta.
I personally will continue to shine light on the low bearing fruit via sales and good deals for potential buyers; to put pressure on the the higher inflated pricing.

Unfortunately these prices as per past decade trends is the new norm. So buy on the low when its low. I personally believe we will get their again. Prices can't stay inflated forever!
Also I believe Nvidia's as per usual mind game is increasing prices ( up to 40% at current pricing 😱)as per rumors from tech media on current supply to make the Blackwell Supers look like a bargain.

Yeah, I remember. I also remember that was during the great financial crisis, where we had 10% unemployment and people were trying to keep roofs over their head, not to mention nvidia had a NEGATIVE profit margin in 2009.

But sure, tell us how corporations should run like charities and ignore inflation so you can have cheaper bing bing wahoo

Last month the 9070XT was just under 600 usd in South Africa. Now they are around 930 usd and that is still a lot cheaper than the 5070TI which sits at a whooping 1200 usd. Our retailers want to make us believe that 100% upmarket is fair... Cheapest 5090 are 4500 usd.

Pricing on the 9070XT still isn't that bad in the US, compared to a 5070Ti often being close to or at $1,000. Nvidia plans to raise their prices by another 20-30%. I can't imagine paying 5080 price for what was supposed to be a mid range GPU.
Also to no surprise the corporate simps defend GPU pricing, even with inflation a $500 GPU would be about $800 now, Nvidia is just playing consumers because they know you'll still buy it.

I wonder where we are on this graph?

Great analysis. The pricing trend has become frustrating, especially for gamers trying to build a mid-range PC. At this point, waiting for the next generation or looking for a good second-hand deal seems like the smartest choice. I also like comparing hardware combinations before upgrading because it helps avoid unnecessary spending. One useful tool I've been using is https://trybottleneckcalculator.com to check CPU and GPU compatibility before buying.

Just get it from Germany?
Caseking does international shipping (and you can set the site to English) and I'm pretty sure Alternate and computeruniverse do international shipping as well.
Shipping costs are peanuts as well, would cost me €11 to get one send to myself.

That's supposed to be the whole consumer advantage with the eurozone, don't like the local prices, just buy from someplace else in the eurozone without having to calculate the prices (euros are euros). I get tons of stuff from Germany (live close to the border so I can literally cycle there for things that are cheaper). There's no nasty surprise taxes or other additional costs either buying from fellow EU-member countries.

Only issue might be warranty being a bit of a pain, sometimes sending stuff international yourself is silly expensive. Although depending on the store (or manufacturer if you take up contact directly) they might send you return postage labels free of charge.

Economics and the progression of technology dictates that pricing goes down over time, not up and progress stagnating. We've seen GPU progress stagnate for several years now as Nvidia would rather sell gamers on software upscaling and frame gen over real hardware performance increases. None of these companies are selling at a loss, they weren't selling at a loss before the AI RAMpocalypse either.
And companies can be greedy and charge whatever they like when people will still gladly pay whatever the greedy corporation is asking, but it doesn't mean anyone needs to be a corporate shield cheerleading for higher prices.

Economics "dictates" no such thing. Who told you something so ridiculous?

As for the "progression of technology", you've missed the fact that new process nodes cost tens of billions of dollars, give performance gains in the 10% range rather than the 100% of years past, and have now reached the point where the per-transistor cost of new node chips is now increasing, not decreasing -- invalidating the core tenet of Moore's Law:

We've seen GPU progress stagnate for several years now as Nvidia would rather sell gamers on software upscaling and frame gen over real hardware performance increases.
It seems you missed the release of NVidia's 5000 series, which happened in 2025, little more than a year ago.

None of these companies are selling at a loss
Do you expect companies to sell at a loss, just to provide you with cheaper video game hardware?

I realize facts don't interest you, but NVidia's current net margins on 5000-series GPUs are about 45% (65% on their AI-focused chips), and the GPU portion of your average video card BOM is roughly 30-35%. That means if NVidia did cut their profit to zero, it would only drop the price of a video card by some 14%. And, with lower prices no longer controlling demand, the cards would run out of stock anyway.

...it doesn't mean anyone needs to be a corporate shield cheerleading for higher prices.
I'm cheerleading for the truth and a basic understanding of economics. When people such as yourself are ignorant of these matters, you're easily gaslit into supporting inane government "solutions" with incredibly toxic, destructive results.

Unless:
1. AI data centers crash
2. AI crashes
3. The sun burps and wipes out all the "chips"
4. WW3 starts

I don't see the price coming down any time soon. #3 & 4 are the most plausible. ;)

9070 XT prices has been all over the map lately, but are a great deal as they have trending in the $650 range. I actually purchased a Gigabyte RX 9070 XT GAMING OC for $549 in a freak sale at Walmart about a month ago. Hands down the best value if you stay patient for sales/discounts.

I used PCPartPicker and set a price alert. Triggered and swooped in and got a steal of a deal. The 9070 XT is the best deal around even at $650. Great card.

According to this article, GPU prices have risen worldwide a little less than 20% in about a year's time, which, I suppose, is reasonable considering the greed of the typical vendor and producer. Now, take into account the price change of the aforementioned RAM and then reflect on the greed of the typical vendor and producer. Could this be a conspiracy among the higher ups to gain more control of what we have already lost.

And the real slap in the face is Nividia is in no rush to make more GPU because all the memory is still being shuttled towards AI data centers.

Worse: even if a new card, 6080 or 9090, comes to market, you'll have scalpers scalping as they have not created any way to control who gets cards and who doesn't.

Apple killed scalping during the iPhone 7 Plus launch simply by forcing pre-orders and then qualifying pre-orders on the date of pickup. No bot can beat that.

I personally think they love this. After all, they are propelled to the world's #1 company and they have massive profit. It always feels like there is an artificial pressure pushing these devices up.

I have a 5090 and 64GB DDR5 just like both my cousins do. I think we can weather the storm for 10 years. I don't see any software coming any time soon to challenge the 5090. If a 6090 and 7090 does come, my cousin will spend whatever it takes to get it. I don't need it. I can wait till the 10090.

Hopefully the system will be better then.
