Half life doesnt run the install program on XP

hi im just wondering if anyone can help me
i just bought half life and i can install on xp
i have the latest patch and stuff so i dont know whats stopping me from installing it
any help?

I'm assuming this is Half Life 2.

What error pops up when you try to install it?

its half life 1
and it just dosent load the installing program even though ive downloaded all the latest patchs and updates.

ok i found the problem
i click autoplay and it opens the autorun menu.
the i click install half life and it just dissapears.
please can anyone help me?
