My hard drive (new)(80gig / 10000rpm) is awesome. However, during windows XP startup, the HD will head knock. The drive always does it during the same time during at startup (just after the XP splash screen). It will hang for around 1 minute and then proceed with windows startup and work flawless until reboot. Any thoughts on what setting could be causing this ? It's driving me crazy. Everytime time - a Pannng....then pause.... then windows kicks in.

I am running AMD 64 x2 4400+ / 2 GB ram.... and really dislike the 'click' and hang during boot up. Any additional information that you might have is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for you time!

A hard drive clicking is never a good sign I had a 80 GB WD that did the same thing you describe. that lasted for about a year until the time it went, clcikty, click, clickty click, and was toast. you should try running the hard drive makers diagnostics on the hard drive.

I'll second what iss is saying and raise him a "back up your data asap".

(can you tell last night was poker night?)
