Hardrive shows on bios, but not on OS

I have a 80gb Maxtor diamondMax 20 STM3802110A hard drive. It partitioned into 2, and it was working fine until the one partition got slow and now the hard drive shows in the BIOS, But not on xp. I tried installing linux opensuse on it but it doesnt work. Help me please !!!!!!! Im desperate

Well at least BIOS (cmos) sees it.

I believe your best approach would be to download your Hard Drive diagnostic tool, to test for any errors.

Can you see the drive in Disk Management?

Start>Run>diskmgmt.msc>Ok
