What just happened? For those unaware, yesterday (September 26th) was The Last of Us Day, an occasion HBO marked by releasing the first full trailer for the TV adaption of the game. Those who played the first 2013 title—or its remake/remaster—might recognize several scenes. We also get our first proper look at the show's Clickers.

The dialogue-free trailer recreates the grim atmosphere of the games, with Joel and Ellie, played by Game of Thrones alumni Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay, crossing the devasted landscape of the US while avoiding the infected humans that have been mutated by a parasitic fungus known as Cordyceps Brain Infection.

Any TV adaption of a video game brings concerns over whether it will do the source material justice—the terrible Resident Evil series was canceled after just one season in the wake of some very negative reviews. But there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic that the Last of Us will be something special.

In addition to the excellent cast, including Parks and Recreation's Nick Offerman, the show was written by Craig Mazin, responsible for the miniseries Chernobyl, voted one of the best TV shows of all time, and Neil Druckmann, writer and director of the game.

The trailer also gives us a look at how the show portrays the Clickers. They look like an accurate recreation of the game versions, right down to the distinctive noises that instill fear in gamers who hear them.

In addition to the trailer, Naughty Dog also dropped some other Last of Us content yesterday. It includes a slew of GIFs created by the games' animators, who remade some of their favorite GIFs with the LoU characters. There are also some wallpapers for desktops, phones, and tablets.

The Last of Us will premiere on HBO and HBO Max in early 2023. In the meantime, PS5 owners can try The Last of Us: Part I remake, though it's debatable whether those who played the remaster will be happy about spending $70 on this slightly prettier version.

Permalink to story.

I'll wait for review from both sides of the aisle before considering watching this (maybe even wait for a 2nd season).
After Halo's lukewarm adaptation, TLOU2's butchering of the previous game for it's story, and asking for $70 for a 2nd remaster, not much confidence here...

There's no "butchering" in TLOU2, at least not story-wise. If you wanted a "they lived happily ever after" sequel, then maybe you shouldn't be looking for that in a survival horror franchise.

In any case, I don't like the music in this trailer, it has none of the OST's vibes. I can't imagine why they weren't going with that, it's perfect as it is.

WANT! WANT! WANT! I can't wait for this! I could identify almost every scene in the trailer. But I'm also happy there will be some new backstory (and possibly new conflict) with where Sam and Henry came from.

A lot of people actually found the story and story alone to be of poor quality. Cant ignore this problem when so many people specifically rated it low for story alone. What is it on metacritics right now, like 5? That after a lot of review were deleted due to "review bombing" just like recent "review bombing" RoP show. You have an opinion but you at least gotta admit the overall rating of a product, tlou2 was not very good, and it definitely disappointed Sony in the sales department.

OG Last of us is 89 on Metacritic. Remastered is 95 and Part 2 is 93.

Don't know where you got your numbers from? Opinion?

Pssst, check the user scores.....
The only one that fits is OG Last of us with a 5.9. But then if you go to Last of Us Remastered, 9.2. Last of us 2 user scores are bad because of anti-LGBTQ users' review bombing it.
________
Example:
Kira08
Jun 21, 2020
Score - 0
This review contains spoilers. We don't want gay an political on games and is very very bad game play just why do that?
_______

Yeah that's not a legit review.

Oh look, now you found the score you "conveniently" didn't find the first time.

And don't deflect by quoting troll reviews. There are also a lot of legit negative reviews too.
