HDD gone? Riddle me this

I've had a known issue for a few days on one of my hard drives not showing up under "my computer" at all.

-the harddrive shows up in BIOS
-it shows up under device manager (however it doesnt have an option to uninstall it) ..was thinknig maybe if i unistalled it then rebooted the pc would pick up on new hardware.
-its an internal hard drive not external

I have vista

my pc is the Toshiba Satellite X205-Sli1 all specs are the same except 4G RAM now.

Have you used disk management to initialise the disk and set it up with partitions ?
