HDD Recognition

I have a working build of XP, 3 HDDs. Added a new SATA drive, XP will recognize only as an external drive (complete with safely remove drive option in system tray) but I cannot use, explore or format the drive. It does not show up in disk management. It works if used as an external USB drive.

You have a setting that is incorrect, or your SATA cable is bad... we have seen so many bad SATA cables this year, that I wonder the cause of the problem. So first thing I would try is replacing the cable... but read all the set-up information in the motherboard manual.
