IBM Deskstar 46.1GB

The drive powers up but only makes a clicking noise.
the normal whine of the drive is not present.
Bios does not see drive anymore.

HGST tech says the clicking is definitely a failed bearing.
Says it's "unrecoverable".

Suggestions?
Can the platters be safely removed and put in another drive?

any help is appreciated

regards,
Meat

Um. Not really. A spec of dust on the platter can interrupt the read/write head's operation. There are companies that can get your information off of damaged harddisks, but it's costly.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

It does sound like your hdd has died, but don`t give up hope just yet.

Go HERE and read this guide.

Please note this is a one off possible solution to try and get the hdd to work just long enough to get your data off.
