Thanks for that evilfantasy - I saw the 018 entries but wasn't too sure as I couldn't find them in the castlecops database hehe. Oops missed the No SP2 - I'm half a sleep lol.

Heres the log, I don't have sp2 because I don't have enough space on my c: drive for it since it was partitioned. Also I have noticed that in the control panel>Automatic updates. I can't seem to turn it off in that window there it always has the dot on automatic (recommended) and it's the same even if automatic updates are enabled or disabled in services.

There are still two 018 entries that need deleting.

I hope you know your running a huge security risk by not having SP2 installed.

I will try to find out about your update problem.

Regards Jason :)

Yeah, Those 2 018 are there after I did a fix checked when there was a whole bunch.

I can't find anything else wrong with your HJT log.

As long as your computer is running fine you can do the following;

Hide system files

  1. Open My Computer.
  2. Go to Tools > Folder Options.
  3. Select the View tab.
  4. Scroll down to Hidden files and folders.
  5. Select Do not show hidden files and folders.
  6. Check (tick) Hide extensions of known file types.
  7. Check (untick) Hide protected operating system files (Recommended).
  8. Click OK.
  9. Close My Computer.

Flush the system restore points

  1. Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
  2. Select the System Restore tab.
  3. Check (tick) Turn off system restore on all drives box.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Restart your computer.

After restarting your computer, follow these steps:

  1. Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
  2. Select the System Restore tab.
  3. Uncheck (untick) Turn off system restore on all drives box.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Restart your computer.

Note: Do this only ONCE, don't flush it regularly.

Try to delete them in safe mode.

Without updating to SP2 there isn't much we can do. Along with security updates SP2 also includes many bug fixes.

Go to Start > Run > type Services.msc

Right click the Automatic Updates service and select Properties. next to Startup Type use the drop down menu to select Disable.

Restart the computer.

May I ask how big your hard drive is?

Try deleting some unnecessary programs/files and try to install SP2. I can't stress enough how important this is.

It's ONLY 266.0 MB!

The 018 items are back after fix checked.
Also my partitioned c: is 5gb and I have about 1.2gb free but the windows update site says I need 1.8gb free as a requirement.
edit: missed that 266mb part. Is there somewhere I can download or is that from windows update?

Also, I'd like to say thanks for everyone's fast responses on here. =]

* To control or disable automatic updating, open the System icon in Control Panel (or right-click My Computer and select Properties), and choose the Automatic Updates tab and disable it from there - let me know if this solves it.

5GB, I certainly think you should look into the possibility of getting a bigger hard drive. You could get a sata 2 (If you motherboard supports it) for about £50.

And no worries mate - were always happy to help!

Yeah, That's the tab where I was saying that I can't turn off automatic updates. the dot is always set on automatic even though I have it disabled or enabled in services.

And Yeah. My puter is a bit old so it doesn't support sata2. (If worse comes to worse I think I just need to format and set a bigger partition this time. I wasn't the one who partitioned it last time)
Also is this the sp2 you mentioned that is 266mb? http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...be-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&displayLang=en
I'm not sure if that one is the same as the windows update one but yeah I think I can download that one and try to install if its the same thing.
