How do I remove my laptop keyboard?

You may be in luck with this. I found what looks like the guide you need. It is easy for the model shown.

2014-11-10 11-23-52.422.jpg I'm trying to find how to un do the ribbon without breaking it? I watched the video several times,but.............

Yes it's easy to go wrong here. I broke the connector the first time I tried. Tmagic's method of using a fingernail is a good idea. The connector on the motherboard isn't meant to come out. If it does you've broken it. Again There may be a different design. You could look on eBay to check that the ribbon for the keyboard has nothing at the end to be quite sure. I think you need to ease out the bit that clamps down on the ribbon very gingerly until the plastic ribbon comes free. At least that's what happens with the FZ. Have a good look in case there's a plastic clip that flips up instead. Try edging out the plastic bits at both sides of the ribbon a little bit at a time.

2014-11-10 12-15-08.398.jpg Thats a close up of it. I don't see any "clips" on either side of it so I'm wondering if I should gingerly try lifting up the flap. Hmm :)
"EDIT" I've looked at it under magnification & I don't wish to risk ruining the ribbon. I hate to be so close & not get it done, but then again, better safe & stop now, than continuing & break it.:'( Thanks for the help. If I can find a way to view that area clearer down the way, I'll do such.

I can't see much from the photo but it may be that the white bit hinges up but the black pieces at the sides are holding it in place. Don't rush it because someone is sure to know exactly what to do next.

I looked at it under lighted magnification which is why I'm willing to wait rather than break it:)

Well, since that last post, I've had a couple people with better vision than me look at the ribbon connection & still can't see a way to un hook it so I'm still going to stick with my USB keyboard. Thank you :)

The method of attachment is almost certainly a narrow strip of plastic with a wedge shaped cross section that slides home squeezing the ribbon into place against the contacts inside the second part of the fastener. Look carefully because I reckon there will be two pieces at the end of the ribbon. First there will be the smaller probably black or brown coloured fragile strip that you need to move back a tad. It moves out of that white piece that is anchored to the motherboard. Expect just the dark coloured plastic locking strip to loosen once you start to tease at it gently with a finger nail.

The locking strip isn’t meant to come clear out of the other bit. It should move back a tad and the ribbon will come free. Maybe alternate by trying each side a fraction at a time. It won’t need to move far to release the plastic ribbon or require much force. All the plastic bits need to stay in place on the motherboard. Problems arise when you try to force the “wedge” with something like a screwdriver and it slips so you end up with the ribbon coming free and also the locking strip breaking.

Have a look at the second and third pictures in the link because hopefully that's how your ribbon is connected. It shows what you don't want to happen.

Ok, I can't do nothing about this till Friday due to the Holiday but Friday I will have another look & take pics too. :)

Ok, sorry for any delay, but I've given up on trying to remove it to clean it. Even when I did have it out but still attached via connector, it didn't look like it should get wet/damp. Thanks for the help & maybe some day.......................................:)

That's true but it's just an ornament at the moment. Detach it, swill it in distilled water and leave it a few days in a warm place to dry. There's a chance it'll work but really you should have been on this right away. If you get a used keyboard from eBay a computer shop should be able fit it very cheaply for you.

Ok I might try to clean it, but as far as getting one from ebay or any other place is out of the question due to lack of $$$$'s. If you or somebody can provide a video on how to remove the connector ribbon WITHOUT messing it up, I'd be willing to try. If you need a model # or whatever,I'll try to provide it.
I'm simply not going to guess at something (undoing the connector ribbon) when using the USB keyboard I've been using works..

Have you ever removed any Laptop keyboard? If not, then I suggest you to go to a service center. If you try to remove the keyboard, you can break it. So you need to be careful.
Ok, in plain english, I don't have the $$$ to buy a KB nor to take it to a shop to have it done. If I did, I would of done so instead of coming in here thank you.
No, I have never had a reason to remove one. I know I could break it if I tried to remove it which is why there is several days between some of "MY" posts.
If I can't find a way to get the ribbon undone safely, I'll continue using the USB KB I've been using.Thank you :)

The links we've given you are as much help as you are likely to get. When you completely dismantle a laptop the keyboard connector is not the biggest obstacle so videos tend to swing quickly past it. At least you are well informed that the connector is delicate and needs to be appropriately handled. I messed up mine by trying to completely remove it instead of move it back the fraction required to loosen the grip on the ribbon. Even so, I managed to bodge it back together and when it was seen to be working OK I used a blob of glue to secure it more effectively.

@bazz2004 , that delicate ribbon is the reason I'm preferring not to mess with it & continue with the USB KB. If I mess up the ribbon, I'd have a doorstop. Thanks. :)
