Hello!!

I Just installed the windows XP, and i created 2 users, i'm the administrator, and the other one, is limited account, and i want to block some programs for Limited Account, because i had Windows 7, and it has this option to block specific programs to Limited Account.

Thanks!!

Please clarify... you have installed Windows XP, and Windows 7? Tell us more about your system and configuration. Microsoft has instructions online that might be helpful.

hmm; which programs are you attempting to control?

The common setup is to install into \Program Files and the installer places a shortcut
in
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\product name folder\shortcut here

If you MOVE that shortcut to the Admin profile
C:\Documents and Settings\AdministratorUserId\Start Menu\Programs
then only AdministratorUserId will see the program under the START menu.

That will be sufficient for someone that is naive in windows.

It does not inhibit
  • the use of anything in the \windows or \windows\system32,
    so run->cmd->filename will still work as the %PATH% statement is unaffected
  • does not inhibit one from navigating the disk to find the program manually, eg
    c:->\Program Files\Product Name Dir\program.exe

To inhibit a knowlegeable computer user, you need to change the NTFS permissions,
but that can be risky unless you've done this before
