Hum when recording on Dell

Hello
I have an old Dell computer and when I record audio from the mike and also from the web, I get this terrible hum in the background. Even when I press record and record nothing, I get hum.Is there something conflicting or something I can do to get rid of the hum. Thank you

That's the power a/c 50/60 cps. Make sure you use a 3wire power cable to the wall outlet and that wall plate is actually grounded.

I don't think it is...I have used other points. It seems to be coming from within the machine.

Could be - - my dell laptop N5040 has a hum SOMETIMES using HDMI. One projection system has hum, two other locations do not. As the two work fine, I conclude it's a shielding issue with the other one.

Yours is more specific - - your mike vs recording - - don't know what to say.
