Humanoid robot video that terrified the internet isn't real

Facepalm: Technology is advancing at an incredible pace, especially when it comes to AI and robotics, which is why many people are concerned about the possibility of a Skynet-style rise of the machines. This fear was compounded recently when a video of what appeared to be a humanoid robot went viral. But there’s no need to worry: it’s a fake, albeit a pretty convincing one.

The short clip started making its way around social media platforms on Saturday—I saw it on Instagram—helped by a retweet from English mentalist Derren Brown, who included the calming message, “WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE.”

While the robot in the video is pretty terrifying, it’s not a secret project from Boston Dynamics. In fact, it’s not even a real robot: it’s a CGI rendering.

Adam, as he’s called, was created to show off the Unity engine, which powers games such as Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, Life is Strange: Before the Storm, and Endless Space 2. The CGI robot starred in a short 2016 film from Unity’s Swedish demo team and went on to appear in a web series.

Neill Blomkamp, the South African-Canadian film director responsible for District 9, Elysium, and Chappie, produced the second and third episodes of the series along with Oats Studios. He tweeted that Adam wasn’t real and in a separate post gave “Props to the artist who implemented Adam into live action footage."

3D artist Maxim Sullivan posted the original video of Adam on August 12, along with the message "Glitchy test of Adam from the @oatsstudios Unity film, going for a walk."

While Adam may be a free, downloadable model for the Unity engine, we have seen some real nightmare-inducing robots from Boston Dynamics, including the very freaky ‘Handle.’ But right now, it appears that an actual Terminator is still many years away.

Oats Studio do some very advanced work. I've watched a few of their short movies on Steam. Incredible graphics.

I am sure the USA Black Projects have these AI-walking and talking already. Just we just don't know what they're doing and how they're spending all our tax dollars. Don't close your minds to this tech it's here already. This video of robot man walking just the tip of the iceberg. We are slowly getting drones that can fly over our houses there are some cool neat tech they release to the public but we just don't get the latest and greatest stuff. I am sure there are faster HPC and transparent tech too. But it's almost 2019 and soon to be 2020 nothing really has changed in computer development for CPU they're not even Bus Pipeline256-bit or CPU 20GHz CPU/APU 20 TB DDR20 of RAM. Most software now still runs with 8 GB of RAM 1.7GHz to 5GHz most people just happy with 4GB of RAM with Dual core. I am sure the government has more tricks up cash cow projects.

It looks like a human but has no empathy, no compassion .....no soul.

My God, that thing is almost as scary as John Bolton!!
