I cannot split the partition in vista

  1. Hello Everyone, I am new here. I have a copy of windows 7 beta 64-bit. I ran it on my HP laptop. When I repartitioned the drive I could not get enough space. So, I just installed it over vista. Then I had to go back to vista for a short time. Now I would love to run 7 again, but would like to dual boot 7 and vista. I don't know what is wrong. I have 260GB of free space. When I go through the process of splitting the partition this is what I see:

Total size before shrink in MB-305243

Size of available shrink space in MB-0

Enter amount of space to shrink in MB-0

Total size after shrink in MB-0

No matter what I enter in amount of space to shrink, nothing happens. I have turned off system restore, and paging. I have defragged, refragged, and defragged again. Nothing seems to work. I would really appreciate any suggestions and advice. Thank you.

defragging had NOTHING to do with partitioning.

try a commercial tool like partition magic or an open source alternative.

Oh you purchased Hard Disk Manager ?

That would seem to be a waste, as free options were available
But so be it, each to their own

    Thanks for the update :grinthumb
