Installed new video card, now my monitor is black

I have an older Dell Dimention 4550. We just purchased a PowerColor X1650 512MB GDDR2 video card so my son can play the newer games. I uninstalled the drivers and graphics card through add/remove programs, installed the new card, and when I turned everything back on, my monitor screen in blank. I can hear windows starting, but cannot see anything. Please help!!!

Wait did you first put the monitor cable into the graphics card. You see graphics card switch's off the motherboard display so that you can only use the graphics card.
