Intel Arc A380 desktop graphics card launches in China with $153 price tag

What just happened? Intel has announced availability of its Arc A-series 3 desktop graphics cards in China, one of the first being a custom version of the Arc A380 from Chinese manufacturer Gunnir. The entry-level product is priced at 1030 yuan (around $153), and Intel says it is up to 25% faster than AMD's bottom-of-the-stack Radeon RX 6400.

Gunnir's dual-fan Arc A380 Photon 6GB OC packs Intel's ACM-G11 GPU made on TSMC's 6nm process node. As the name suggests, it packs three 15.5 Gbps 2GB GDDR6 memory modules and a 2,000 MHz base clock with a 2,450 MHz overclocked boost. While the memory is slower than the 16 Gbps reference specs, this OC model will likely have a higher boost clock than the standard A380.

Other stats include eight Xe cores, each with up to 128 ALUs for a total of 1,024 ALUs, eight ray tracing units, and 4MB of L2 cache. The Arc A380 Photon also packs three DisplayPort outputs and one HDMI 2.0 port, and the 92W TBP (total board power) rating means it only requires a single 8-pin PCIe power connector.

Intel is positioning the Arc A380 as a cheap card that is still capable of passing 60 fps with medium settings in less demanding games like Apex Legends and Dota 2. It also notes that its Xe Media Engine enables hardware AV1 encoding acceleration while supporting HEVC, H.264 encode/decode, and 8K resolution media processing. That should make it a more enticing option than the $160 Radeon RX 6400, which has a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface, no hardware encoding, and no AV1 decode.

Intel says other Arc A380 cards will come from Acer, ASUS, Gigabyte, HP, and MSI starting this month. The release will begin in China and expand globally during the summer, so expect to see the cards land in the US before AMD's Radeon RX 7000 and Nvidia's RTX 4000 lines get here.

Now we can confirm why this is only on China after severe delays which is making even the maligned 6400 look good: It takes a very beefy cooler and an 8 pin connector to do what AMD is now doing with single slot, half height, no extra power requirements?

Here's a hint for intel: Unless there's a specific need people are refusing to consider the 6400 so what chance do you think you have here at 150 USD price tag? Yeah just keep the ones you produced already for some corporate machines that might need basic ML acceleration for devs or something.
 
Damn 8 pin+ PCIE = 150W+75 W = 225W for 25% more than a laptop part?
But from the looks of the cooler, looks like solid Aluminium from here

Probably does it matter - apparently Intel is still flowing in money
I think this is a long term strategy - less people to annoy with bad drivers in first year .
Unless CPUs get new abilities going forward - new gens will be good enough for most people.
So I think that is why the desire for ARM , chiplits, all manner of tech - all these companies are positioning for an unknown future . NVidia, AMD, Apple , Intel and others
GPUs are one thing game developers will push and push.
Also will AMDs motherboard longevity finally mean very HQ motherboards with more upgradeable stuff than just ram , drives - I mean if zen6. 7. 8 all have the same pins

However I do think M/Bs will have more than one type of CPUs in future - and have multiple slots - they have too - the motherboard itself made have small inbuilt chiplets or arm like processors - why not -M1 like chips will become cheap - if you can get a powerful ARM chip for $50 - would be great to have on a M/B as a backup low energy option = for many it's enough as cloud computing will be all they need for browsing , casual gaming .
So Intel and everyone have to back many horses - GPUs are a near cert for ongoing upgrades

There's my prediction for today - long lived motherboards - with lots of upgrade options ( or very few for those going cloud ) - that won't need ram , M2 drive , CPU added unless you want - as M/B will come with a basic permanent attached SOC/drive chip - it has to happen as such ARM chips will get dirt cheap

Whoops just realised we kind of already have it will raspberry pi - so yeah Intel know that for many their PC only needs to be the size of a deck of cards + cloud - The hard core gamers will always be a market for foreseeable future - that means GPUs .
That tiny PC may be your phone - paired to a monitor or TV & keyboard , controller - just attach it to a cooling block for sustained gaming

About time Intel, too bad the market is collapsing and crypto demand is waning. Hopefully it will at least help start bringing down the ridiculous MSRP's!

6500XT performs ~30% faster at 1080p than 6400 but yet it has 2x TDP

The reason why 6400 has low power because of much lower clock speed.



 
I think by the end of 2022 we might actually have a graphic's card surplus! Here's to used $500 3800 RTXs on local Buy/Sell forums!


lol and they still have less vram (8GB) than an average wristwatch in 2022. nvidia ladies and gentleman.
