hi , i checked my "DHCP Active IP Table" and found 2 items :
1. my computer's name. my ip address ends with 100
2. host name : "unknown" ip address ends with 101

i have linksys wireless router , done a security WAP . but who is the "unknown"?

could be the router itself

get a command prompt (run->cmd) and enter ipconfig /all

if both x.100 and x.101 show up, you're fine :)

Set up it to use an ssid (service set identifier).

And make all connections between you machine and the router encrypted (remeber to not use a not easily guessible password.

Well, EVERY WiFi has an SSID -- change it to anything other than the default value.

WIRE a connection to the router and then;

If you have the feature (MAC Filtering), your MAC address is shown in the ipconfig data,

Use it on the Mac Filtering page and set ONLY ALLOW.

(keep encryption OFF for just now).

Change the router login password and SAVE the settings which will cause you to lose the connection

Disconnect the Wired connection and attempt a Wireless; you'll see your new SSID
Once that works correctly, disconnect.

Go back to the Wired connection and set WPA2 or WPA encryption (not WEP)
and save again. (Be sure you document the new key).

WiFi connections now require that key AND an entry in the MAC table to complete a connection.
