Hi there

I have AVG Internet Security on my pc. Today, all of a sudden, whenever I click on a new tab (in IE8), AVG Secure Search engine shows up on the page/tab instead of just the usual 'blank' page. I didn't dare enter any searches as I thought this was very odd. I just came out of the page and went straight on to google it. Luckily, I managed to catch sight of part of the "address" - it's something like isearch.avg or something. Google came up with a few things but I couldn't find any definite answers as to whether it's a malware or not. Everything else on my pc/internet seems to be working ok.

I'm just worried now that it will somehow manage to obtain details/data off my pc (passwords, online transactions etc).

I'm just after some feedback/help and wondering if you might have come across this in your daily travels lol. Your forum has helped me several times before, so I thought I'd pop back on here to ask for your advice before I carry out any further steps. I have carried out the MBAM scan (I tend to do this anyway every week or so) and it didn't detect anything. I have also posted a similar query on AVG's forum but I am not expecting any replies from them somehow.

Thank you in advance.

With all due respect, the only 'feedback' I will give is to suggest that you check the system for malware. When the is any change of this nature, especially with a security program, there's a good chance it's from malware.

Did you know what there is Rogue Security Software Pretending To Be AVG?

How about checking it out?

If you would like us to check the system for malware, please follow the steps in the Preliminary Virus and Malware Removal thread HERE.

NOTE: If you already have any of the scanning programs on the computer, please remove them and download the versions in these links.

When you have finished, leave the logs for review in your next reply .
NOTE: Logs must be pasted in the replies. Attached logs will not be reviewed.

Please do not use any other cleaning programs or scans while I'm helping you, unless I direct you to. Do not use a Registry cleaner or make any changes in the Registry.

Thanks for your reply. I will carry out the steps & post the logs tomorrow when I have more spare time.

Hi Bobbye

I actually received a reply on the AVG forum, saying that the isearch/AVG secure search is basically a google secured search by AVG. So, no harm done. Sorry, I just panicked as it just appeared all of a sudden and you just can't be too sure these days. So, I think I will leave it for now and won't be posting the logs this time round.

Thanks again.

Thank you for the update. Strange they should change the format without advising users!
