"At Intel's technical conference, CTO Patrick Gelsinger said the Internet will begin to collapse as millions of new computer users from developing nations begin to sign on."

The end of the world is nigh. The apocalyse is coming. Architectural limitations on the structure of the World Wide Web mean that Cisco, Hewlett-Packard, AT&T Corp. and a bunch of other really important folks think that the Web just can't take much more. Its going to collapse under its own weight. Well, not unless we start to build a new network over the current Internet, to keep everything together.

And have you ever heard a better news from telcos to their shareholders?

Hey, the current system we've built isn't good enough. The world will have to pay us to create a better one!

"So we went to Atari and said, 'Hey, we've got this amazing thing, even built with some of your parts, and what do you think about funding us? Or we'll give it to you. We just want to do it. Pay our salary, we'll come work for you.' And they said, 'No.' So then we went to Hewlett-Packard, and they said, 'Hey, we don't need you. You haven't got through college yet.'"

Technology has always come along to overcome others shortcomings.

Maybe Microsoft will build it. Now there is a scarey thought - Gates could probably afford to save the net and at the same time make it part of Microsoft.

I think they are more referring to the total sum of all architecture - its just not great enough to take even a chunk of the third world trying to use it properly.

Thomas you missed the biggest one of all time

Don't forget that Xerox thought a "mouse" was rediculous.
