Just wanted to offere an FYI for anyone getting an external harddrive and wanting to put their itunes library on it (it takes up an enormous amount of storage).
I transferred all itunes files, but couldn't get the program to find the songs and play them on the computer even if we changed the pathway to f:/blahblahblah. Finally, I realized it need the songs to be in the same windows hierarchy as before, so when I transferred as My Documents/My Music, it was able to make the connection and work.
Forgive any of my terminology or explanations as I am a newbie at this.
