Larry Page takes over as Google's CEO

  1. As announced three months ago, Google's CEO position has today switched owners: from Eric Schmidt to the company's co-founder Larry Page. Page was previously CEO for the first three years of Google's existence, before Schmidt was hired.

    For anyone who has *watched* him say silly comments like these, most of Schmidt's "gaffes" were said jokingly. It's hard to pick that up from reading text though.

    Unfortunately, having a wry sense of humor is a bad trait for a CEO -- everyone's interpretations of what a CEO says tend to be so incredibly pedantic and literal.

    Page was quoted as saying he wants to bring the company back to it's "startup roots". What that means exactly is open to interpretation, but I think Page wants to get Google back to being a nimble, risky and innovative company. I'm thinking being a publicly traded company is in conflict with some of those ideals though.
