Lenovo has announced the ThinkPad X131e Chromebook just two days after we published a rumor citing the company was preparing multiple notebooks based on Google’s operating system. The 11.6-inch ThinkPad X131e is described as a sturdy notebook design to stand up to the daily rigors of K-12 education.

The system features a rubber bumper around the top cover and strengthened corners to protect the computer in the event of an accidental drop. Lenovo also implemented stronger hinges and hinge brackets that will last more than 50,000 open and close cycles.

Systems ship with an Intel processor, the aforementioned 11.6-inch HD LED anti-glare display with a native resolution of 1,366 x 768 and a trio of USB ports. Lenovo’s 3.92-pound Chromebook will come standard with Wi-Fi connectivity as well as HDMI and VGA ports to assist students with presenting projects to their class on a projector or big screen TV. A 6-cell battery will accompany each new system, we’re told.

Each system offers a number of customization options such as custom colors, asset tagging services to help keep track of computers left on the school bus or in the classroom and even school logo etching to associate a Chromebook with a specific school system.

Lenovo’s press release for the ThinkPad X131e Chromebook says the system will be available starting February 26 via special bid volume pricing starting at $429. Lenovo promises that a list of detailed specifications are forthcoming but as of writing, this is all we have to work with.
