Linksys wireless USB adapter problems

Ok so i just bought this linksys USB adapter from this lady for like 10 bucks. Its 802.11b instant wireless series. Now im hoping i didnt buy the wrong thing when all i wanted was a wireless card. When i go to connect to any network it just wont connect it will say aquiring network address then say not connect, any clues?? its WUSB11

The wireless adaptor is B-mode (802.11b).
Unless it has other capabilities, it will only connect to a WiFi router which supports and is configured to support B-Mode. Many routers will support multiple modes;

What brand and model router are you using?

What networks? I would guess that most public networks should still support 'b', but a home network with a newish router may not. If the router is a 'n' router, it may only be set to accept 'n' or 'g', or 'n' only.

Using some new netgear router im guessing thats why?

says it supports b/g/n

the default address is 192.168.1.1 admin/password

The wireless mode (802.11g/b, or 802.11n) that each wireless adapter supports.

it appears that if the mode is left in 802.11n, then the g/b mode would be EXCLUDED.

login and change the Wireless settings to allow G/B mode
