Linux laptop

Does anyone have any thoughts on what would be a good laptop to buy to build a Linux system around? Or maybe, just buy an external HDD and configure a multiboot environment?

Generally Linux plays well with Intel laptops.
Also if you are planning to buy a new one, you can check out the Dell's Developer Edition laptops which come with Ubuntu pre-installed. HP also has a linux laptop called Dev One (if I remember the name right). Also there are laptop manufacturers like System76 that make Linux laptops.
