I have an external hard drive-passport and I have used it for backup of my system in the past but it has been disconnected for several months. When I connected it again to do a recent backup it hangs up on preparing backup. I have left it on overnight but it is still hung up. Any solutions would help

First, disable Auto Backup and shutdown the system. Disconnect the ext hd and restart.

After your login, attach the drive - - DOES is show up and if so, can you browse its content?
