Microsoft kicks off Windows 10 countdown with "10 Reasons to Upgrade" video series

It is a complete reset on privacy, beware. All those little spy ticks and data burrying features you routed out and blocked over the years, will be refreshed and unknown with windows 10.

Anyone thinking they'll be getting an upgrade from their w7 is mistaken, they'll be getting a crippled mobile oriented OS plugged into the cloud, with less user control, more tracking.

I dont need your ugly tiles. I had win 8 crash on my sys. occasionally. I had the same problem with windows 8.1. I don't need something that works worse than win 7

This video is a lie. You CAN NOT set the live tiles area this narrow. In reality it's 33% wider.

I only need one reason not to upgrade. No Windows Media Center. Microsoft dropped the ball on that one.

I don't really see the point of it. I used it about 2 weeks in Windows 8 and never again. I actually forgot that I had it on the system.

I'm guessing it has some great feature that I don't know about and don't use (probably streaming related.)

Yeah, Windows 10 literally combines start menu and tiles...exactly what nobody asked for. We wanted tiles on the desktop, ala a new breed of gadgets. The obvious goal is to keep pushing people towards the start screen and limited, dumbed-down mobile apps on the PC. Yeah..not gonna happen. Windows 10 will tank just as bad if not worse than Windows 8 due to Microsoft's obsession with copying all of the competitions worst aspects.

Correction, "you" wanted tiles on the desktop. The entire idea of continuum wouldn't make sense with tiles on the Desktop. I love the overall UI of Windows 10 as is.

I'm excited for Windows 10, as someone who hated and completely skipped windows 8, im hoping 10 is the upgrade I'v been waiting for. I will admit if it wasn't free I wouldn't get it, not even for $10 because windows 7 is that good. My only fear is that all the stupid squares being animated and such will have an effect on games I play.

1) Tiles are only animated when you're viewing them.
2) They are not a resource hog.
3) You can easily right click or long press a tile and opt to "Turn off live tile".

I like windows 7, but these are the reasons I won't upgrade to ten, even in dual boot mode.

Cons

1. Windows 7 start menu has my computer, control panel, recently used programs and documents.
2. I work from home, my company won't let me use it due to security holes.
3. Auto updates and restarts, I cannot risk disconnecting from my work tools.
4. I use a 120gb sd for my os and would barely have enough room for 2 os's. I do not want to put one on my 2tb 720rpm hd.
5. I do not want to have to keep switching between operating systems.

Pros from windows 10
1. New directx
2. Future patching
3. Someone let me know if I am missing something.
In reply to your “Cons”list.
Cons

1. Windows 10 allows for you to add Documents, Settings & File Explorer to the Start Menu. The classic control panel can quickly be accessed by right clicking the start button.
2. They won’t let you use a newer and more secure OS? Odd, considering they’re allowing you to use your own PC to begin with.
3. Windows 10 auto updates, but you can set up own reboot times and allow it to detect when you’re not active.
4. Easy, ditch Windows 7 completely.
5. See #4.

What is your definition of tank? I really enjoy win8 and 8.1 because it's been proven to be faster and more stable than win7. It's simple and easy to use even this 3 years old had no problem with it . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlZgcAacIxU
Yeah, 8.1 is perfect except for the fact that a large number of 8.1 users experience 8.1 losing its DNS information even though it is connected to the internet, even though you can ping IP addresses, and all M$ can say is "its your drivers" when many people experiencing this have the latest drivers installed.

Computer and the control panel are accessible from the start menu

What security holes? The OS isn't even released for your IT department to test it for security holes.

3. Auto updates and restarts, I cannot risk disconnecting from my work tools.

The enterprise edition will allow you to turn them off. And for the pro version you may not be able to turn if off ,however it won't force a reboot you can still decide when to do that yourself.

4. I use a 120gb sd for my os and would barely have enough room for 2 os's. I do not want to put one on my 2tb 720rpm hd.

Why do you need to dual boot both?

5. I do not want to have to keep switching between operating systems.

Why install both?

Pros from windows 10

if those are you reasons good luck sticking to 7 they seem pretty weak to me.

I can't believe all the hate in many comments, it feels like if you were reading messages from the dark ages.

You're in luck. Once you upgrade you can then go into the Recovery part of PC Settings and set your computer back to "Factory Defaults" which is like doing a clean install but without the hassle of making a Windows install disk or USB flash drive, reformatting, and reinstalling drivers. It does it in one click and a reboot or two. You can even choose to do it while keeping your personal data intact through the reset.

I usually like to do a clean install every six to eight months. I look forward do being able to do it without all of the hassel.
I have tried that, with the rtm version. but I still get windows old folder... even with keep nothing option.

Most of the butt ugly windows 8 things are still there abut at least are pushed a little to the side. So that is why I will use it... or rather force myself to use it.
Lets hope future updates and wise people will fix the things Microsoft screwed.

I really don't get this absurd fetish with trying to force the same mobile Windows interface on everything. Desktop Linux & Android are both Linux but different. OSX & iOS are both Apple but different. PS4 and FreeBSD are both BSD but different. Windows is apparently the only platform where the user-base is treated as now being dumb enough to think their PC should act like a 24-32" non-touchscreen tablet purely because they own a mobile phone and might confuse the two. That's about as intelligence insulting as "upgrades" get, short of bundling Candy Crush Saga...

It may be easy for a three year old to use but I have a lot of elderly customers that request Win8 be rolled back to 7 because it's too hard for them to get around in. Windows Shell has made it a lot easier for them without doing a rollback.

Got my Windows 10 info remail today.
"When can I upgrade to Windows 10?

We want to give every customer a great upgrade experience, so we’re rolling it out in an organized way to manage high demand and to make sure that the upgrade is right for your device. After July 29, when Windows 10 is ready for your device, it will download in the background. You’ll then get a notification to schedule your upgrade right away or at another time that’s convenient for you.

Here are some common questions about the upgrade process. Click on the links for answers." Minus the links .

so why don't you just run a disc clean up which will clear this old windows folder.
and sit for hours to clean reg edit and several folders on the pc, bc of traces from old system ? nah, clean install or nothing! and I guess it will be nothing... if anyone ever manage to make a win10 pro eng, e edition, do msg me :)

So, are you technology should wait for the elderly? I have had the opposite experience. With people I know that are 55+ I explain that the live tiles are just an animated version of the old start menu and below the live tile is the old start setup. Than how to use the window key they have no problem. It even hopes them transfer to Windows smart phones because it has the same interface. I have been a beta tester for MS new OS since vista I think they should have had a better tutorial and people would have been more comfortable with win8. They should have added the "This PC" and "control panel" to desktop by default. But, win8 is faster and more stable then win7.
