  1. hi..

i'm just wondering whether divx is the same as mpg4?

if it is, does it mean that mpg4 enabled dvd players are able to play divx videos?

No! DivX is not the same as MPEG4. Both Xvid and DivX are loosely based on the MPEG4 Part-2 standard. Just because a DVD player says it's able to play MPEG4 doesn't mean it will play formats that aren't completely based on MPEG4.

If you want to find out whether it plays DivX, you could burn a DivX movie to a CD or DVD and put it in the player.
If the player can play the movie without glitches, hiccups, screen corruption or lag, then you can take it as a yes.
