Its a decent card (if i'm thinking of the same model), but creative drivers DO NOT LIKE VISTA, actually they really HATE it.
The AuzenTech Auzen X-Fi Prelude 7.1 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Sound Card - Retail uses the same X-Fi chipset as the high end Creative cards, but with auzentech's drivers, and its about the same price as comparable Creative cards.
For a lower price, the Asus Xonar's are good.

EAX only makes a difference if you have speakers\headphones that are good enough so that you can hear the difference.
It is a minor thing and can be ignored IMO. Onboard sound is okay for the vast majority of people, including many gamers.

The AC97 is garbage, I agree. But new mobos usually come with Realtek HD onboard sound, which is pretty decent IMO.

I have no idea, in fact, the last time I checked on Creative drivers was maybe a year ago.

The Phenom IIs are 45nm chips compared to the 65nm of the Phenoms. The Phenom II range has ironed out a few of the issues plaguing the first generation of Phenom processors. They're also more energy efficient. Overall, a better buy.

Ok I see in terms of power the phenom II beats the phenom. I was wondering if I would get better performance in games with the phenom X4 2.3Ghz compared to a phenom II X2 550. For example more fps in crysis or GTA 4.

For gaming the x2 550 would be much better, the phenomII is much faster for all the reasons Rit mentioned. most games also like higher clock speeds and the x2 550 has 800Mhz stock over the Phenom your looking.It also has 6Mb of L3 cache which boosts its performance in a big way.(and its a black edition
, can you get the x2 550 for around $115there? oh and its an AM3, so better upgrade path.

Not really. Yes, its much cooler just by being a Phenom II.

No, its for less demanding stuff, like sound cards.
