network cable disconnect problem.

I had a new desktop computer built and bought a new laptop.I had a working network before the changes so I know the location of my new laptop is appropriate.
My desktop works fine and my laptop works great on my neighbors network.Alas,the message I get is my"Marvel yukon network cable is disconnected",an impossibility.I have restored my Datalink 614+ to factory specs-no help there.
Any suggestions on what to do?

I bet that "Marvel" thing is an El Cheapo (TM) gigabit interface..

Try setting the link speed in Device Manager for your network interface. Try forcing it to 10Mbit half duplex for starters and then work your way up from there.
