Networking problems: Can connect to the internet, but cant fileshare

I was setting up a network on my friends computer, everything was fine as far as getting them onto the internet. HOWEVER, i cannot share any files, i made sure that the firewall doesnt block it, and i made sure that file sharing is enabled. I went through all the trouble shooting.

what else can i try to get this to work out?

got both computers set to be in the same workgroup? What OS are they running?
If either is running XP pro, make sure you are using simple file sharing, else you will have to make sure the proper permissions are set.
try pinging them from eachother.

they are in the same workgroup, both running windows XP, I tried pinging them, i can ping one computer, but the other one i cant.

doublecheck all the settings, especially firewalls. Turn firewalls off completely if needed until you get them talking, then you can turn them back on and configure them to allow filesharing.

Hi,

To ping from each system to another, the protocol used should be the same on both the comp. Eg. if only tcp/ip then both should have only tcp/ip. This is will both the computer from either side.

Can u plz send the error mssg or any mssges u r getting while sharing any folder. Remember, u can't a file but folder can be shared. So put d file in folder and try again.

Also chk for the permission of the shared folder.
