New Steam survey shows Windows 7 is now the most popular OS among gamers

Anything newer than windows 7 sucks. I don't know why people say they "don't mind" windows 10.....that's just the sheep talking right there. windows 10 is horrible. I STILL can't get madVR and mpchc-be to run properly on windows 10. damn picture doesn't even show when I maximize the player window and it lags like complete poop......like 20 fps. windows 7, not a problem running it. weird stuttering issues in my games on windows 10 too. perhaps my motherboard isn't properly supported, but I don't care. screw that operating system.

I should have no issues running anything in any scenario.
Window7 is not optimized for SSD, that alone is a reason to bury it. Come on man, Windows 7 was released in 2009. You're running hardware manufactured in 2014 on software made for 2009 computers.
SSD's entered the mainstream in 2007, well before Win 7 was released.
My Samsung 840 Pro runs in ACHI mode, Trim is enabled, prefetch/hibernate/indexing are off. What does Windows 10 offer that is different?
Please show a reliable source that Win 10 works better with SSD than Win 7. I couldn't find one anywhere.
Win 7 is updated monthly. It is not software from 2009 anymore.
MS stated Win 10 is the last version, so in 2025 it will still be called Win 10. That doesn't make it "old".

This is most likely just user error or some driver problems, I have no problem using MadVR and mpchc. Try switching to PotPlayer and see if that works.
As for games, they run better on windows 10 compared to windows 7, especially if you turn of the DVR feature.
tried potplayer with it too. same issue. tried both mpchc and mpchc-be. no go. as for the user error possibility....not possible lol. driver issues are a strong maybe since idk why I would have these issues. the issue never occured in windows 8/8.1 for me when I tried them.

then why does a fresh install of windows 7 run better on my machine than a fresh install of windows 10? you do know there are tweaks to make windows 7 ssd compliant right?

I have no issues with Windows 10. Those that do, it's called user error.

Love how TechSpot puts Pubg and China in small print below the main title which is very deceiving. We all know that's its one game and one country that's causing this. No one cares about China and it's hackers.

US players are leaving the game because PUBG cant stop or fix all the problems or the cheating. Not because of anything else. Maybe once all the fixes come at Xmas things will get better, we will see. Until then people continue to walk away. Sure the game will make money but from some sorry country that allows hackers n cheaters to do what they want. But they want to ban the game cause the world sees what they really are, losers that need to hack and cheat in a game cause the suck at it.
man it's not a user error how hard is it to run windows? seriously.......this isn't gentoo linux we're talking about.......

Please tell me you are basing your complaint on more than those two issues. Which by the way sound like third party problems. I say that because I don't have any issues with mpc-hc64 player. I can minimize, maximize, full-screen, and even span across monitors full-screen.

As for MadVR, I suspect all VR projects are still in beta stages. I mean seriously why would you think any VR project to be a polished product? Maybe you have a point if this all works on Windows 7, but that doean't make it Microsoft's fault.

With that said I to have issues with Windows 10. But in general all the issues I have, I had with Windows 7 as well. Automatic updating is the most annoying issue I have with Windows 10. That's only because I don't have the bandwidth for all my machines to be downloading at the same time. I need the freedom to update manually at my leisure.
lol do you even know what madVR is...? sounds like you think it's something to do with virtual reality which it's not. it's a video renderer thats been around for many moons. I could go on about why I dont like windows 10. driver instability. UI isn't as snappy as the windows 7 UI in my experience. the million times I try to load a webpage and chrome and it basically tells me it's broken but it will load 15 minutes later when I try again yet it works fine on my phone. madVR not working for me is a true deal breaker. I won't use any other video renderer and if something that simple doesn't work for me I'm out. the amount of random 1 second stutters/lockups I got while in game were a dealbreaker. I had game mode etc off and my drivers set up properly and it even happened when running my games on the lowest possible settings. windows 10 isn't a full release product and they should've waited a couple more years to release it. nothing was wrong with windows 7 and they just tried improving it with 3 new operating systems that have all been a disappointment

Then I don't know. I've managed to install windows 10 without issues on both old and new hardware (we are talking about tens of system configs).
I'm running it on a first gen i5 laptop right now. Installed it when it was just in beta as an insider and have been upgrading it since (no clean install since then with 0 major issues). MadVR worked from day 1 on it. There is absolutely no reason why it should not work for you too. At this point in time I'm inclined to believe that is indeed user error or just a buggy driver (audio or video) or even faulty hardware. It's definitely not a windows issue.
Are you using the LAV filters? Are you using hardware acceleration (GPU)? Did you try some older versions of MadVR?

I lost my laptop to theives so had to buy a new one. Got one with windows 8 installed. It was so terribly bad and it would NOT run some of my older programs that I had spent good money on. S0 I had to pay to get win 7 put on.

I would never willingly go to buy a machine with win10 one either. I have seen what Micro$lop is trying to force down the consumers' throat. Win7 just works and does NOT get in the way. Since then I have experimented with Linux and perhaps when I have to retire this present machine I will go that way.

But I agree, win7 is the best over win8 and 10...

You shouldn't have to tweak your OS. Again, old software not optimized for today's hardware. Windows 10 runs amazing on a new rig, try installing version 1703 or 1709 if possible.
