Hello, I need help deciding what video card to get.

I have just recently got a part time job bagging at a grocery store. I make around 150 a week. Currently i have a P.O.S x600. I bought under a recomendation of a friend, which was a big mistake. As the card can not run games as i want it to. THe rest of my PC is exactly what i need, so im repalcing thr x600. I have nothing agianst either ATI or Nvidia.

I have really been eying this card here
Now the 128 MB of ram doesnt impress me, but that price does. But then agian, why is it so cheap? It seems to good to be true.

Thanks for the suggestion compguy, but there really is no way i could afford that. Like i said, its a part time job, so im not making that much money. I have insurcane 1600 a year, cell phone, and a lot of other expenses.

SO i have contiuned my search, and i found this this
But with only 8 pixel pipelines, and 128-bit memory interface, im not sure if it is a contender.

thanks agian

No problem sean. I hope you enjoy your new video card. :haha: :haha: :haha:

Depending on your budget an x800xl may be a good fit, if it's in your budget.$315

Or maybe an x800xt? $333 after rebate

Or maybe a 6600gt? $150 after rebate.

Or maybe a 6800? $190

Or maybe a 6800gt?$300

It all depends on the $$$ :).

EDIT: I linked to agp cards, is that what you need? The msi card you listed first is pci-e, which do you have? I think the p4c800d is agp, if your rig in profile is the rig your working on.

Narrowed it down...

Ok so i have narrowed down the choices. It is between

6800 like this

or the x800 here

Now my final questions/concerns.
6800-only regular ddr. only 128MB of it.
x800-ddr3 is a nice touch, but again only 128 of it.
Now is this low mem going to dampen my games? I play FarCry, Morrowind Guild wars. I know that load times might be reduced? but whoopie about those. Thanks agian

Sean

BTW-I now have realized the 6800 vnf4ultra suggested is AGP. I have PCI-X so i think it is now going to be the x800.

Much props to you vnf4ultra! I will go with the x800 that you showed me. I think for 30 bucks more, it would be worth it to double the VRAM. The unlocking of 16 pipes on the 6800 is tempting, but i think i will go with the x800. Thanks agian.

Glad to help, hope it is much faster than the x600, it should be. :)
The x800 256 looks good, I'd much rather have an msi than a sapphire or powercolor(not that they're terrible, but msi's better, IMO). Msi includes a ton of cds of games and extras, so that's a plus. 256mb may be really handy for future games, so I think it's worth it to upgrade it now rather than regret it later.

Here's a bench if you're interested.

It looks like an x800 is more than 2x as fast as a x600 pro(is your's a pro?).

you aint kidding me. the x600 was by saphire and i will never buy from them agian either. The fan went up within a week, and they gave me a hard time about it, so i bought a third party one. Anyways i will order it as soon as i get my paycheck..thanks agian

Lucky bastard! J/K You're quite lucky, becuase I have !@#$ing Intel 82845G Onboard graphics.

What exactly is the card NOT doing for you? The X600 is a fine card. No, it won't run Doom3 at the highest settings with any reasonable fps. What do you have the card set at? If you're running 8xAA and/or 16xAF, you might run into some problems. Check your settings and if need be, tune them down some. Hope this helps. :)

Well the card is failing. It really is my fualt. I put some artic silver on it, and oc'ed the crap out of it. i got it from the stock 400 to around 580...which helped with performance. But by doing that and by putting stress on it for as long as i have had it (which is about 6 months), the capatctors and on the board near the main power are scorched, and now that card only puts out a signal off and on. Plus, the performance, is nothing that will wow you, its no better then a 9600 (well it really is the same core)

Sean

BTW-i will try and get a pic of the scorched card, and the oc.

Money.... if only i had...

I am running an old 9600xt and its more then enough for me. If i had the money i would go for the 6600gt or the 6800. I am not agianst ati or anything its just i want to change when I have a hard time with a card for ethier ati or nvidia.
