Trump did explain it -- in multiple press conferences, in interviews, in tweets, during rallies, and on the White House and other government web sites, including the CDC's. What more do you want him to do? He can't force the media to report it fairly.

No, I did not say that. That's your interpretation. I said it would be perceived that way depending on the person doing the interpretation. Obviously, your interpretation of the reason is yours. But, you are not Pfizer's CEO, so you do not know and what ever conclusion you came to is speculative at best.

As to Trump - it is still on him. He can blame the media all he wants. He simply does not get that his style makes whatever he says not very believable. But what they hey, he's a stable genius - so I guess that makes him an expert on shoveling horse crap.

Apparently, the mask lesson was learned in the 1908 pandemic, also, and there were similar kinds of arguments WRT wearing them back then. I think it amazing how much is known and yet some choose to ignore.
