Nintendo DS Lite battery leak question

We we're driving a uhaul truck to move and in the cab they have this housing that goes around the motor, and he put his DS in the storage compartment, and I guess it got so hot that it made his DS battery leak, and their was some leakage in the DS but not much but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. My question is do you think the battery leaking has destroyed the DS, he tried to turn it on and charge the battery because he couldn't figure out what was wrong. But nothing happened. So do you think its worth even trying to buy another battery, will the DS even work? Thanks!

Certainly the battery is dead. I think it's impossible to say for sure if the DS itself is undamaged. The heat that killed the battery might not have done the DS any good either. I'd buy a new battery and see.
