Hello! Welcome to TechSpot

Download this
Everest
This will give you much better info on your system.
Need to know model of MoBo and if this is on board sound
or on board sound/ video.
It may just be a driver issue.

i've had the same problem alittle before you.

what you need to do is:
1.) download everest.
2.) click on the computer, and summary. it'll show you all your information.
3.) see if there is a yellow exclamation mark, or question mark next to the audio icon.
4.) find the internet site of your mother board manufacturer.
5.) download the appropriate driver.
6.) restart your computer, and see if it works. (it did for me)

that's how i learned to do it from this forum. :)

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

You have a separate pci soundcard. Go to the soundcard manufacturers website, and download the correct drivers for you model.

Thanks to all.....but still no result....I am yet facing the same problem.....

I have downloaded the sound card from AsusTek for XP but but still it is not working.....I mean there is no sound yet..... and overall, the software hangs up while installing the sound card.....kindly help me out if you have some other suggestion....thanks in advance

According to Everest:

Motherboard 63-0318-000000-00101111-021605-I915$A0005074_BIOS DATE: 02/16/05 16:07:13 VER: 08.
Motherboard DMIMOBO: ASUSTeK Computer INC. Goldfish2
Motherboard DMISYS: Compaq Presario 061 PW608AA-ACJ SR1430IL FD440

with an onboard sound/video.....

I dont' have the drivers CD. "I mean it got somehow scratched and the drive cannot read the CD now".

If you have a separate soundcard, then downloading the drivers for the onboard sound wont help.

If the Everest programme doesn`t tell you what pci soundcard you have( although I would`ve thought it would), then you will need to open up your case and look at your soundcard. It should tell you what make and model it is.

Regards Howard :)
