Nvidia has revealed plans to show its next-generation Tegra processor at January's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and promises Tegra 2-based mobile devices next year. While Nvidia has not elaborately detailed the forthcoming chips, company execs have said Tegra 2 will be built on a 40nm process, feature a dual-core ARM processor along with an integrated graphics chip, and will be at least two times more powerful than its predecessor.

According to Michael Hara, senior vice president of investor relations and communications, Nvidia will make a major announcement about the Tegra family at CES. There will reportedly be products shown by Nvidia's partners, as well as "roll-outs and deployments of tablet PCs, smartbooks, netbooks, MIDs throughout the first half" of 2010, and smartphones will emerge in the second half.

Nvidia hopes sales of its chip will surge once featured in smartphones, and that Tegra revenues will hit $100 million by the end of fiscal 2011.

Tegra 2 is going to be in a lot of stuff. i know MS will almost certainly use it to keep it's edge over apple (as far as hardware), but seeing how buddy buddy nvidia and apple are i wouldnt be suprised if these things made it into Apple's products like their upcoming tablet, or future iPhones. If Apple released a tablet based on the Tegra 2 i would buy it for sure.

This is odd, i see 17+ comments on this article when i view from my ipod touch, but only one on my pc. I tried clearing the cache and viewing from a different computer, but i still only see one comment. Looks like something funky is going on.

Well, being twice as powerful as its predecessor....that's pretty amazing. Maybe we will be able to fit the guts of an xbox 360 into an ipod touch some day after all haha

Why? So Apple can also experience the RROD? A novel idea, though something tells me they will pass :)

As far as the Tegra 2 is concerned... I didn't see much of the 1st gen tegra at all. I hope they make good on their promises and start using it in more devices soon.
