More news on the Samsung virtual reality front as the Oculus Mobile SDK is now available from the Oculus Developer Center. The initial release, version 0.4.0, is designed especially for the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition and is said to include everything needed to get started developing for mobile.

In a blog post on the matter, the Oculus team said they’ve been working on the Mobile SDK for over a year in collaboration with Samsung. Specifically, they’ve been optimizing the Galaxy Note 4 tech stack to deliver the first ultra-low latency, mobile virtual reality headset.

Some of the Mobile SDK’s key features include asynchronous timewarp, direct front buffer rendering, clock frequency locking, GPU context priorities, real-time fine grained GPU context switching, real-time CPU threading and direct warped content.

The SDK includes the full-source code for Oculus Cinema, Oculus 360 Photos and Oculus 360 Videos under an open license.

Much like the Oculus Rift Development Kit, the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition provides developers (and enthusiasts) with everything they need to build and experiment on the platform ahead of the official consumer launch.

The Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition is available for pre-order directly from Samsung in two different variants. One includes the headset bundled with a Bluetooth gamepad while the other only comes with the headset. Expect to pay $249 and $199 each, respectively.

As a reminder, the Gear VR is only compatible with the Galaxy Note 4 although Samsung has promised that future revisions will work with other handsets.
