Odd Mouse Situation with Lenovo T410 - Ubuntu 16.04-Windows 10

My USB mouse as well as my touchpad malfunctions on both Windows and Ubuntu (dualbooting!). I am able to move the mouse fine, but the mice ends up clicking and dragging th thing on the screen and it cannot be set down by left-clicking once more. My laptop was bought used as is 5 years old now. I've tried various solutions online but almost nothing works. The only temporary solution I've found is opening up the GUI terminal in Ubuntu (ctrl-alt-f3, ctrl-alt-f7). This clears the problem for around 10 seconds to 1 hour. However, doing this gets annoying quickly and I still don't have a solutions for Windows. Oddly, whenever something like this happens, the dmesg output doesn't show anything unusual or odd. I've noticed this problem ever since I installed Ubuntu to dual-boot.

If related, I've installed additional RAM onto the PC (8gb of ram available)

I've tried:
- Using the touchpad/alternate mice (two old and one new from the dollar store)
- sudo modprobe usbhid, sudo rmmod usbhid
- entering BIOS and ensuring USB mouse is enabled
- trying to stop fwup by setting EnableOptionROM=false in /etc/fwupd.conf
- disabling compix by installing and using the Xubuntu desktop
- reinstalling both Windows and Ubuntu (various flavors also had this problem: Fedora, LXLE)
