OnePlus doesn't believe in Black Friday, drops price of OP5T by a penny

You’re probably aware that today is Black Friday. It’s a date when companies try to convince us to buy their products by offering discounts that vary in quality. But not every firm welcomes the annual event with enthusiasm. OnePlus, for example, believes Black Friday is just “mind games,” and is taking a stand against it by dropping the price of its OnePlus 5T by just a penny.

The newly released handset, which has received mostly excellent reviews, is indeed reduced in price by $0.01 today. But the Chinese phone maker says this isn’t an act of arrogance on its part; instead, it’s meant to illustrate the point that OnePlus’ products offer excellent value all year round, implying that its competitors’ offerings are overpriced every other day of the year.

“Our goal is to share good technology with the world. That’s why we price our devices fairly year-round, so that you don’t have to double check the match. Say no to Black Friday price games,” the company said in a statement.

That’s not to say OnePlus is ignoring Black Friday fever altogether. For 24 hours, it’s cutting the price of the Dash Power bundle by 50 percent.

“We prefer to keep the focus on making good products to share with the world. In order to do so, we have to make some money in the process. At the same time, our users would like to save some money. This is where fair pricing comes in,” the company added.

With a 2160 x 1080 6.01-inch screen, Snapdragon 835, 6GB or 8GB of RAM, USB Type-C, and plenty of other features, it’s hard to argue that the $499 (starting price) OnePlus 5T doesn’t offer excellent year-round value.

Now that the nexus line is gone, this is probably the last decent android smartphone remaining on the market IMO. Shame they don't do tablets as well.

Pretty smart, they've brought more attention to their product by this move as opposed to offering a discount like everyone else. Good marketing I say!

I'm on the first version of the OnePlus 3. Its been a great phone. Now I know they've bumped up the prices, but the fact is, they're still not wrong. You're still looking at nearly double in price for the same features. Although, I think OnePlus is about done squeezing the market. We'll see the company move to match other flagships just like the nexus phones did. But for now, they're not wrong.

Either they can't afford to lower their prices or they're just greedy.

Lets try not to classify a manufacturer that is way undercutting the competition as greedy. Can they afford to lower their prices? Probably. Fact is, Oneplus puts out phones that other companies would retail for $800 at least. I know for sure, if I'm going to be classified as greedy either way, I would rather charge $800 and make more profit. I'm glad Oneplus doesn't think like me... yet.

Gotta agree with OP...they been breaking the trend and causing major disruptions in the smartphone market since day one...great specs and brilliant pricing all year round...Love my OP 3T<3...OP FTW!!!

If your looking for a good stock android smartphone without all the bloat/modifications, I recommend you have a look at the moto lineup. Only added "extra" is a FM radio app, Which is really useful.

Although I agree that OP phones are already cheap (mine is fantastic and I'll probably be a customer for life) I do feel like accessories could be marked down for a day. The Dash car charger was sold out when I got my phone so it will be a $34 charger if I buy one alone. That seems excessive and also didn't drop (not even a penny) for cyber monday. :/
