Open Forum: What do you think of the iPhone 7?

I think everyone forgets that HTC and a few others have ditched the 3.5mm port. Honestly it's a single use analogue port. Sure it's frustrating but that's the cost of advancement.

I'm always unimpressed with the iPhone. As a PC hardware enthusiast, I've found that the Android platform is the right place for me. Unlike the iPhone, it's not a locked down platform. I also value replaceable batteries and expandable storage.

I'm not upset or annoyed about the 3.5mm headphone port, or more accurately, the lack of one. At the same time, Apple only took something away. You didn't gain anything. If anything you're being ripped off by having to purchase extra adapters or new headphones.

Then again, I'm not part of the target audience, and never will be.

Sadly, I just don't see anything there so spectacular enough to make me rush out and buy one. My three year old $100 Moto phone does everything I want and need and with the Consumer Cellular service, it's got great coverage ..... but please, all you folks with the cash need to run out and buy one, two, or three and upgrade to that new iPad too cause I need the stock to rise and those dividends to keep on coming in!!!!!!!

I think it's advancement if it makes people say things like 'thank God, this is sure better, wow, this is great...why didn't they do this before" instead of making everybody PO'd and angry, locked into a proprietary system, $50 for an adapter to listen and charge at the same time...change is not always the same as advancement

I did not like it, I won't buy it of course. Those earpods look terrible, I'd prefer to use my already good quality headphones.

You guys do realize that Steve review phones for TechSpot..right? Although I don't remember him ever reviewing an iphone :p err wait...I've never actually read iphone reviews anyway :D

What advancement would that be?

Because it lets Apple make the phone waterproof? Nope, Sony figured out how to do that years ago.
Because it lets Apple make the phone slimmer? And everybody needs a phone that doubles as a knife.
Because it lets Apple fit in more powerful speakers? Sorry, the HTC M8 already had that.
Because it lets Apple sell new accessories and adaptors that lock in the iSheep even more? Ya.

But hey, that's how Apple got to where it is today - what are you gonna do?
:)

Yes - but it's a lot easier and more efficient without the 3.5mm port

Yes, but slimmer is still better for some people...

Irrelevant - the Sony and HTC don't incorporate other "nifty" Apple features... the more room, the better.

Well duh.... that's the best part!

No, innovating new products and convincing people that they HAVE to own them is what got Apple where it is today...

The specs say it all, another Apple device with hardware from 2013.
Pretty sure the CPU is made by Apple and is from this year... but you have to remember that Apple devices are more than the sum of their parts... whereas Android devices are often less...

Phone being waterproof isn't a good enough excuse to remove one of the great features that is 3.5mm jack. If you're careless enough to let your phone take a bath then you're probably careless enough to drop it and the phone isn't shatter proof.

  1. Design - Looks very similar to the last two iPhones, and jet black is going to catch fingerprints so easily that I’m calling it a step backward!
  2. Camera - This might be exciting for photographers. I’m not a photographer. Also, there seems to be a seriously missed opportunity if Apple can create a depth map of a photo, and only use it to blur the background!
  3. EarPods - They’ve changed the connector from 3.5mm to lightning. This will have no positive impact on my experience using the phone.
  4. AirPods - This isn’t a new feature, it’s a new product.

How about digital audio over analog for one?
Not much of an improvement if any at all. Whatever difference there is you won't notice it and I am going to take a guess and say that you don't know enough about audio differences to talk about it.

Lemme put it this way, no music you buy will ever need the bandwidth that an analogue single use port can offer... the music 90% of people buy is digitally recorded unless specifically purchased and downloaded at higher quality. Having one digital multi use port save me some space? Sure okay. :p

I like the new wide gamut support for the camera and display. Photos gonna look awesome.

Seriously, its high time Android gets DCI-P3 HDR support, those amoled displays should be properly utilized instead of how they oversaturate colors today.

Reviewers really seemed to like the feedback of the selection clicker and other stuff around iOS 10 with haptic feeedback. The taptic engine API along with 3dtouch should -in theory- make developers create awesome apps. But 3D touch did not take off, so I suppose the taptic will remain a gimmick.

Best Smartphone ever made.

I have iPhone 7 Plus 256GB. I can record 4K video for over 6 hours and edit right in iMovie on the phone. My Youtube channel was built on my iPhone videos.

It's also faster than the 6s and apps run more smoothly.

One of my family members got a Galaxy S7 today. After the Note failed, she couldn't consider it. iPhone is so far ahead of Samsung, it's not even funny.

Those features you just listed could be done on Samsung's last gen phones, too (Galaxy S6 Active, for example. Bigger battery, natural life proofing built in). I've used modern phones both from Android and iPhones, and Android still has a clear edge.

I have the iPhone 7 Plus.. and 90% hasn't changed at all from the 6 Plus. I'm not impressed overall. This phone isn't bad by any means, it's a very solid device. But comparing to flagship Android devices... ya just can't. The features simply aren't there.

I have owned both current gen devices, and not many people can say the same. I would argue that it's far from the best phone ever made.

I love my 256GB. I'm impressed by the stability of the apps. iMovie doesn't error when a call comes in - during finalizing for one.

I'd buy again.
