When did remote-controlled toy helicopters/planes come to be called "drones"? Haven't these things been around for a long time?

To me a drone is autonomous (I.e., a drone bee). Otherwise, it's just a remote controlled aircraft.

    P.S. - I hate buzzwords.

I think the definition of a drone is an unmanned remote controlled flying vehicle/device - so yes, we've had them for years. We just recently got one at my job that we've been playing around with - makes for some pretty incredible video footage. We're also looking to do an Oculus Rift mod since I have a DK2 on order unless Zenimax has its way.
